If you are as tired of this trash problem in Tennessee as we are, now is the critical time to take action and contact your legislators.

Tennessee Waste Reduction & Recycling Act (SB0573/HB0550) is the answer. This bill, when enacted, will not only clean up litter in our state, but it will provide improved recycling services to all Tennesseans at no extra cost to consumers or taxpayers. This bill will grow our economy and create thousands of local jobs. Through this bill, the producers who create the packaging that is filling up our landfills and littering our communities will share the responsibility of creating a solution that works for all of us.

Here’s a sample email message for you to send immediately to your Senator and Representative (please do not delay as we expect a vote any day now):

Dear Senator NAME, Dear Representative NAME,

I am writing to ask you to do everything you can to pass the Tennessee Waste Reduction & Recycling Act (SB0573/HB0550). Here’s why I support it:

This Act, when it passes, will boost the economy, improve and expand recycling, and clean up Tennessee’s litter pollution.

Thank you for supporting this bill and a cleaner Tennessee.

Sincerely,

The following is compliments of Joel Hausser and is very important. Did you know that most of our honey is imported with absolutley no assurity of its purity? This bill protects consumers, beekeepers and our dwindling bees. Please read and respond to your congressmen.
THE HIVE ACT
Congressman Kelly Armstrong from North Dakota has introduced a bill called the Honey Integrity and Verification Enforcement Act (H.R. 4764). Passage of the HIVE ACT is very important to all U.S. honey producers both large and small as well as the consumer.

With the creation of manufactured or synthetic honey we need Congress to pass the HIVE Act so that the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) will be required to establish a Standard of Identity (SOI) for honey. The FDA has a long list of reasons they have not established a SOI for honey. Only through a change in legislation will they do what is needed -defining exactly what honey is and what it is not. Manufactured “honey” is syrup plain and simple and should never be labeled as honey. It looks, tastes, granulates, and cooks like natural honey, but neither a bee nor flower has contributed to its creation. The consequence of this manufactured product being called “honey” is that real honey will be replaced with this synthetic product based on price, resulting in two-thirds of real honey usage being displaced by this manufactured product.

What can you do to help? Please send a simple letter to your Representative and Senators in Washington D.C. in support of passage of the HIVE ACT. This letter can be emailed directly to your congressmen and senators offices. After sending the letter, please follow up with a call to their offices and politely ask if they have received your letter and if they have decided to co-sponsor the HIVE Act. Also ask if they or their staff have any questions you can answer. This legislation needs to become law. To find your elected officials, go to: https://www.contactmypolitician.com.
