🚒 V-FIRE Station Remodel & Addition — Community Update

The Coventry Volunteer Fire Company would like to provide our community with an update on our V-FIRE Station Remodel and Addition Project.

While our $1 million V-FIRE grant award has been publicly announced, we are currently still in the waiting phase. We are awaiting the next steps necessary to formally accept the award and begin working through the grant process with the New York State Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services (DHSES).

📅 Anticipated Timeline

During the Fall and Winter of 2026–2027, we expect to work through the required grant acceptance, planning, design, administrative, and approval processes with New York State.

If everything progresses as anticipated, we are hopeful that groundbreaking and construction could begin in Spring 2027.

💰 What Will This Cost Local Taxpayers?

An important part of this project is how it will be funded.

The Station Remodel and Addition is expected to be 100% funded through the $1 million V-FIRE grant.

At this time, no local taxpayer funds from the Fire Company’s operating budget are expected to be used to fund the construction of this project. This allows us to make a significant investment in Coventry’s emergency services infrastructure without taking funding away from the day-to-day operations, equipment, and emergency response needs of the Fire Company.

🏗️ What Is Planned?

The project will include renovations to our existing fire station as well as an addition to the facility. The improved facility is planned to provide additional space for emergency response operations and training while also expanding opportunities for community events and functions and use of the facility as an emergency shelter when needed.

As with any major grant-funded construction project, the timeline and final project scope remain subject to the requirements and approvals associated with the V-FIRE grant.

We are extremely excited about what this investment will mean for the future of the Coventry Volunteer Fire Company and the community we serve.

We will continue providing updates as we receive additional information and reach major milestones.

🚨 BIG NEWS FOR COVENTRY! 🚨

We are extremely excited to finally share some incredible news with our community!

Coventry Volunteer Fire Company has been awarded $1,000,000 through New York State’s V-FIRE Grant Program!

This funding will be used for a major renovation of our current fire station along with the construction of a new addition to the building.

For us, this project is about much more than adding space to the firehouse. We want to build something that benefits the entire Coventry community.

The new addition will give us dedicated space for firefighter and emergency services training, while also providing an area that can be used for community events, meetings, and functions. Most importantly, the space will be designed so that our fire station can better serve as an emergency shelter for our community during severe weather, extended power outages, disasters, and other emergencies.

Our existing station has served us well for many years, but the needs of our department and our community have continued to grow. This project will allow us to improve what we already have while preparing the fire company for many years to come.

For a small, rural volunteer fire company, a $1 million project is something that would be extremely difficult to accomplish on our own. This grant gives us an opportunity to make improvements that we have talked about and planned for years become a reality.

A tremendous amount of time and work went into getting to this point, and receiving this award is only the beginning. There is still a lot of planning and work ahead of us before construction begins.

We want to thank New York State and the New York State Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services for investing in volunteer fire departments like ours.

And, as always, thank you to the Coventry community for continuing to stand behind your volunteer fire company. Your support is what allows us to continue moving forward.

We can’t wait to show you what’s coming!

❤️🚒 From all of us at the Fire Department & Squad..

Today, we want to take a moment to thank the entire Henry’s family for 40 years of serving and supporting our community.

Henry’s has been so much more than a local business. It has been a place where people gathered, friendships were made, stories were shared, and our community came together. Through all those years, you have always supported us as a department and stood behind our firefighters and the work we do for our community. That support has never gone unnoticed, and we are incredibly grateful for it.

We are truly saddened to see the doors close, but we understand that sometimes life brings us to difficult decisions. While Henry’s may be closing its doors, the memories, friendships, and impact you have made over these 40 years will remain a part of our community for generations to come.

To Bert, Jackie, Daron, and the entire Henry’s family — thank you! ❤️
