My niece Deborah Kay always supports us during WAA. We were able to meet up this year and she took some wreaths back with her to Champaign County, Illinois. She met with Lynn my cousin who placed them on her family’s graves. Her dad, was my mom’s brother, my Uncle John who fought and suffered some time in a WW2 German camp. So lucky he survived and had a big family.

Clifford, his son, was in Vietnam and came out with a Purple Heart. The Branson family was from Putnam and Parke County, Indiana.

Dateline: September 17, 1787, 4pm. Church bells in Philadelphia rang out to celebrate the signing of the US Constitution.

Members of the Washburn Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution Chris Miller, Diana Brumfield, Rachel Mohr and Sharon Ellett presented the Proclamation for Constitution Week at the Sep. 2 Putnam County Commissioners meeting. Commissioners Andy Beck, Tom Helmer and Rick Woodall signed the Proclamation and gave the DAR permission to display a banner on the square.

Constitution Week is celebrated to commemorate the signing of the U.S. Constitution by our Founding Fathers on September 17, at the Pennsylvania State House, now called Independence Hall in Philadelphia.

The National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution petitioned Congress to designate the week of Sep. 17-23 as Constitution Week. Congress responded with a resolution which was officially enacted on August 2, 1956 by President Dwight D. Eisenhower.

Washburn's Constitution Week Chair Chris Miller has prepared packets for all the 5th grade students in Putnam County which will be distributed along with an educational talk and their own personal copy of the Constitution. She also set up a display in the Putnam County Public Library.

The DAR encourages all area Churches and anyone with a bell (especially the Putnam County 5th graders) to ring their bells on September 17 at 4pm.
