DONATION for SCHOOL LUNCH PROGRAM

Today, GAHS grad, Kim Hykes, gave Dr. Lura Hanks, Greencastle-Antrim School District's Superintendent, a check for $1,336, the amount donated through the Old Home Week (OHW) Headquarters earlier this month.

Dr. Lura Hanks said, "Thank you so much Kim. This donation will help families who aren't on the free or reduced lunch program to cover outstanding lunch charges from last year."

Kim's mother was the Food Service Director for the district in the 1980s, so ensuring students can eat healthy, nutritious meals is a cause near and dear to her heart. That is why she chose this program as the beneficiary for the donations received for her hand-carved 5-foot walking stick.

๐ŸŽ‰ CELEBRATE THE SPIRIT OF OHW! ๐ŸŽ‰

The OHW Headquarters may be closed for the next three years, but OHW merchandise is still available! Our amazing friends at the Greencastle-Antrim Chamber of Commerce are selling our remaining OHW merchandise, with all proceeds supporting the OHW Association.

You can still get your hands on our limited edition OHW T-shirts (only 4 left!), Polos (in green, white, and gray for both Ladies and Men), and Visors (only 4 remaining!). Plus, snag a FREE copy of our 48-page Old Home Week book, packed with history and stunning pictures that showcase our rich heritage.

If you reserved an OHW T-shirt but didn't pick it up at Headquarters before we closed on Saturday afternoon, don't worry! It's been delivered to the chamber, and they'll give you one more call to arrange a pickup. If you don't respond by Tuesday, the 19th, those on the waiting list will get a call on Wednesday, the 20th.

2025 & 2022 Badges/Programs: $6

2022 MERCHANDISE (limited quantities!):
Ladies Polos: $10-$15

We gave them the remaining items in the Headquarter's LOST & FOUND box: a bike helmet, a sweater, and several pairs of sunglasses. If you found a CANON lens cover on S. Carlisle Street the night of the Parade - please turn it in to the Chamber and we will contact the owner.

APPRECIATION FOR OUR HEADQUARTERS VOLUNTEERS

We are extremely grateful to our 42-strong volunteer team, who worked tirelessly in multiple 3-hour shifts, demonstrating their commitment to OHW, while serving at the Headquarters over the past 8 days.

Although we were unable to capture every volunteer's photo during their shifts, we appreciate the role each played in assisting our OHW guests throughout the week. They answered questions, gave directions, assisted guests with purchasing OHW merchandise, invited them to register using the new smartphone system, showed them contest forms and results, and so much more!

Most of our volunteers attended the training session, two weeks before OHW, where they were introduced to the QR Code system. This innovative registration system was utilized by 286 families or individuals, saving us, as Registrars, a significant amount of data-entry time.

We would also like to acknowledge the invaluable contributions of our Tech Guy, Andrew Given, who was on-call throughout the 97 hours the Headquarters was open, to address any technical issues that arose. Additionally, we appreciate OHW Treasurer, Brad Barkdoll, who spent many hours throughout the week, often behind the scenes, on essential tasks for the Headquarters.

CONGRATULATIONS: CHERYL SMITH!

At noon, at Headquarters, Kim Hykes, who donated a spectacular walking stick that she carved, pulled Cheryl Smithโ€™s name out of the bin for the Drawing. Kim called Cheryl and she came right over to headquarters to pick up her new prized possession! Thanks Mayor Ben Thomas for joining in the fun!

๐ŸŽ‰ LAST DAY FOR HEADQUARTERS UNTIL 2028! ๐ŸŽ‰

While you're still basking in the OHW spirit, come and enjoy Headquarters TODAY, as you walk through the incredible 16 OHW photos, spanning from the 1960s to the latest in 2022. We even have the original 1902 OLD BOYS REUNION photo on display, a true testament to the power of community!

We're also honored to showcase the Mayoral Proclamation signed by Mayor Ben Thomas, welcoming everyone home with open arms. The volunteers at Headquarters have been humbled to witness the spirit of OHW, as friends reunite with hugs, smiles, and sometimes even tears.

Local history enthusiasts, don't miss the pewter cup, given to Phillip Baer, the founder of OHW, in 1914.

There are a handful of 2025 OHW Tshirts still available from yesterday's delivery; (3) Smalls and (5) 2Xs; both men's and ladies Polos, OHW Badges & Lanyards; Watercolor prints of G-A sites; and (5) 2022 Visors.

Opportunity Drawing at Noon for the Walking Stick hand-carved and donated by Kim Hykes. Donations as of last evening total $1,308.

We're forever grateful to the folks at The Life Center for their hospitality, providing us with a spacious location to house OHW Headquarters 2025, from set-up night on July 31st until this afternoon, when we will close. Your kindnesses are truly appreciated!

The 42nd Old Home Week Parade Results:
-132 Entries
-1 hour and 40 minutes (official time of the parade)
-Tons of candy (local dentists probably not happy)
-Thousands of smiling faces
-And one grateful Greencastle-Antrim Community

We don't typically individually acknowledge OHW Committee Chairs, but the parade is a HUGE undertaking from tracking all entries, obtaining necessary Borough and PennDOT permits, and everything in between. This year the parade was under new committee chairs after the retirement of the previous chair, and they did a fantastic job! When you see Megan and Zack Barkdoll please let them know how much you enjoyed the parade and the great job they did!

๐ŸŽจ Celebrate Your Time at 2025 OHW with Artistic Mementos ๐ŸŽจ

Would you like to take a piece of local history back with you, serving as a reminder of the unforgettable experiences created this past week at 2025 OHW?

Jody Edwards Karantonis, a GAHS 1963 graduate and retired art educator, is a Signature member of the Baltimore Watercolor Society. Her exquisite watercolors of local G-A historic sites are on display and available for purchase at Headquarters, with a generous portion of the proceeds donated to OHW.

A limited supply of large prints is available, alongside a wider variety of small print options.

Visit us during our remaining hours this week: Friday, 9 a.m. - 8 p.m., and Saturday, 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. (please note that most OHW committees and vendors will be packing up at 2 p.m. on Saturday).

Headquarters will be closed this evening from 6 - 8 p.m. so that our volunteers can also enjoy the Parade.

Please read all the details provided by GA Old Home Week about the Parade tonight.

THURSDAY, August 7th:

ITโ€™S PARADE DAY! This means that traffic should avoid the area on the southeast corner of Leitersburg and Washington Streets (VFW intersection) starting at 4:00. Parade lineup will consume South Washington St., Leitersburg Street, S. Allison Street, Maple Ave., Oak Lane, South Ridge Avenue adjacent to school complex, and Blue Heron and surrounding alleys.
Starting at 6:00 streets along the parade route will be closed, and several adjacent intersections.

Half of the square will be closed today for Antique Tractor Show and then again tonight for music on the square.

PLEASE avoid these areas!

Please show your appreciation to the RHC Fire Police, Borough Police, and other entities that will be helping with traffic and who will bear the brunt of unhappy drivers that donโ€™t understand Old Home Week.

Residents in the parade staging area, thank you for your understanding and hospitality as we take over your neighborhood for a few hours. It will be worth it, this parade is going to be epic!๏ฟผ
