Letter sent to parents at 3:20pm on 10/30/2020 regarding Greencastle-Antrim Middle School
Good afternoon, GASD Families,
We have unfortunately hit a milestone in this COVID-19 pandemic. We have a member of our eighth-grade teaching staff that has tested positive. In accordance with the Pennsylvania Department of Health and the CDC, it is recommended that when we reach 2-4% of our enrollment testing positive, we should move to virtual learning. While we are not at that level as a district, todayโs positive case places us at nearly 2% of eighth grade. We are not willing to take any unnecessary risks. Therefore, in being abundantly cautious, Greencastle-Antrim Middle School will be moving all 8th grade students to VIRTUAL LEARNING for TWO WEEKS.
That is, from Monday, November 2, 2020 to Friday, November 13, 2020 all eighth-grade students will be learning from home. Students can expect to log in on Monday morning into their Schoology platform for directions from their teachers. This is new information, so please understand that our teachers will be working to organize for this change. Every teacher has been preparing for such a scenario and our 8th grade class will be the first to experience this short-term transition. We are certain that through the next two weeks, we will learn more about how we can be flexible this year and further strengthen our ability to offer virtual learning experiences.
Thank you for staying with us during this time, and most especially for your public displays of support. We hope that this two-week time will settle the increased cases for what seems to be a targeted population in our Greencastle schools.
Have a great weekend. Stay safe. Wash your hands.
