A Very Rude Midsummer

A Very Rude Midsummer Info and updates on The Rude Mechanicals' summer 2011 production of "A Midsummer Night's Dream" Viva Las Athens! That's not all. Still not enough?

In the Rude Mechanicals' upcoming production of "A Midsummer Night's Dream", Shakespeare's classic comedy is transplanted to the neon-and-glitter fantasyland of the Las Vegas Strip. Always remember: "What happens in The Woods (Hotel and Casino, that is), stays in The Woods." The Rude Mechanicals are known for two things: reinventing classic theater with wildly inventive concepts, and throwing a gr

and party while they do. Rudes shows aren't just theater productions, they're creative social experiences for everyone who gets involved. We've created this page for everyone who wants to have a very Rude summer with us! Sure, there'll be information about auditions, performances, calls for crew, and (hopefully!) media links and reviews. But there will also be announcements of karaoke nights, post-rehearsal dining and drinking, cast parties, and other social occasions to which you are cordially invited. This is also where you'll find out about promotional events, performance art stunts, awesome partnerships with other groups and artists, and opportunities to come out and be eccentric and creative with us, even if you aren't part of the cast and crew. Well, when you're at your desk cruising Facebook and pretending to work, there may just be stuff here to entertain and amuse you. Because why would we be doing this at all if we had, you know, DIGNITY and didn't want to dance like monkeys for your attention? Show info:

When you purchase, "GA Thrust" will show as sold-out, so select "GA Thrust 100". Same seating, it's just that the theater added seats recently and the "100" option expands the # of tickets available. Regarding the weather: Tonight's performance is still on. If you have tickets for tomorrow or were planning to come tomorrow, you can call 301-441-8770 x3 (GAC's line) to get updates about the state of affairs. We will also post updates here and will probably send an email update as well in the morning. As of right now, the show is not cancelled for Saturday. We're monitoring the storm and will make a go/no-go announcement by early tomorrow.

So a note on shows this weekend: 1) Get your tickets early! 2) Currently, weather reports have the brunt of any hurricane activity coming late Saturday or on Sunday, with the possibility of heavy rains during the day Sat-- but official prediction for the day is still just "showers". So don't be scared off if you don't have to-- come Friday if you're nervous!

Hey, did you catch our five-star review on http://mdtheatreguide.com? Well, now it has a friend-- the Greenbelt News Review says, "The talents of the cast are amazing and we in the audience felt we were watching performances worthy of Las Vegas.” Woohoo!! (Link downloads the PDF version of the paper; we're on page 12.) I...I think they like us!

I would like to calmly, unemotionally direct your attention to our FIVE STAR REVIEW ON MD THEATRE GUIDE!!! (Who am I kidding? There's a lot of happy dancing going on in the House of Midsummer this fine late night!!)

Blending casinos and magic together, Sean Butler directs a Vegas inspired production of Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Slot machines, card tables, prostitutes, and Elvis are all part of the show, adding laughter and drunken belligerence to a typical Vegas night. The cast croons Frank Sinat...

We're looking to videotape a Midsummer performance, purely for archival purposes. We have one camera op who can tape either of the Friday performances; ideally, I'd like two more people on the same night so that we can cover all three sides of the audience. Anyone interested? You'd be working the show, so obviously you'd be seeing it for free. Having a camera and tripod is helpful but not required-- and this is just point and shoot stuff, nothing fancy.

Aside from the Gazette article (which BTW is gigantic in print form!), we got listed as a weekend pick here and in the Greenbelt Patch! Thanks to all who came out for a stellar opening weekend. We hope you had as much fun as we did! Stay tuned-- I'm told there are also reviews forthcoming. Join us this weekend for more Midsummer madness!
