That's Not True

With the August election coming fast, candidates are working to get their message out to the voters. Problem is, those messages aren't always right. Case in point.

Democrat candidate, Wendy Tittswoth, who is running against incumbent republican, Bill Satterfield, for 3rd district county commission. She has taken to Facebook to, as she calls it, provide Learning Loudon County videos. Ms. Tittsworth says she wants to help voters understand how Loudon County works. Unfortunately, her lesson was way off the rails. In video 3, Ms. Tittsworth says she wants to explain Loudon County Building Codes. She would have done well to have consulted the Loudon County building codes office before she posted a lot of bad information.

According to Ms. Tittsworth, each time the building inspector comes to the jobsite, you have to pay him. This is totally incorrect. After you obtain a building permit, there are no additional costs when the building inspector comes to the jobsite. She also went on a long discussion about the building codes themselves. According to her, if elected, she will get all the building codes scanned so they would be available on the county website so everyone will know exactly what the code books say. Here's the problem with that idea. Loudon County uses the 2018 International Building Codes. These building codes are only available in bound books in the county codes office or for purchase and they're all protected by copyright. It would be illegal to scan and publish the codes. However, if you hire certified contractors, likely they will have access to the codes.

Lastly, she discussed a problem a family member had pertaining to the installation of a fire place and that the the contractor didn't install it correctly by code and had to tear it out and rebuild it. That was more likely due to the manufacturers installation requirements than county building codes. Either way, a certified contractor should know the regulations.

Not for a minute do I think Ms. Tittsworth was trying to be malicious in her explanation of county building codes, but she should have consulted county building codes officials before sharing so much incorrect information.

As Ms. Tittsworth continues her Learning Loudon County video series, hopefully she will first take the time to have a better understanding of what she's explaining.

This could be a lesson learned.

WE TOLD Y’ALL THIS WAS NEXT. 🪂😂

We joked last week that the next step after seaplanes would be people parachuting in and ordering their food mid-air.

Well… here we are.

Now descending over the lake:
“One Smashpuppy!”
“Large fries!”
“Tell Vegas I’m coming in hot!”

At this rate, the FAA is going to start asking what exactly is in our kitchen that has people risking it all for dinner.

Apparently boats are no longer enough.
Apparently seaplanes were just the warm-up.
Apparently some of y’all looked at the dock and said,
“You know what this needs? More skydiving.”

So come on down to The Mudpuppy.
However you get here is your business.
Just know the bar is high now… literally.

Next week we’re expecting a rocket ship and at least one guy on a zipline. 🚀😂

🌱 A Heartfelt Thank You 🌱
To all our regulars and new customers — thank you for your patience and understanding as we transition our menu. We know it’s disappointing to come in craving a favorite item and find it’s not available, and we truly appreciate your grace as we make some big changes behind the scenes.

We’re saying goodbye to shortcuts and focusing fully on what Bluestem Hollow was always meant to be — a true farm-to-table experience. That means cooking with ingredients grown from our soil, harvested from our gardens, and raised right here on our land (or by our local partners who share our values).

You’ll notice a few menu shifts — like saying farewell (for now) to the fried ranch chips (and no more seed oils!) — but we promise brighter skies ahead. The menu will follow the seasons, ingredients will come from the farm and locally wherever possible and yes… sometimes things will sell out. That’s the beauty of serving what’s real.

We’re so excited for what’s growing next, and we’re deeply thankful for each of you walking this path with us.
