Independence isn’t something students suddenly develop when they become adults. It has to be practiced.

That doesn’t make the teacher less important. It transforms the teacher’s role from directing every step to helping students become confident, self-directed learners. 🌱

Because the goal isn’t simply to create students who are good at following school.

We’re looking for a Math Teacher / Math Tutor / Math Interventionist who is passionate about helping K-8 students build strong foundational skills, close learning gaps, and develop confidence in math.

At DOTT Academy, instruction is personalized and competency-based. We’re looking for an educator who can meet students where they are, use assessment data to guide instruction, and help each learner progress toward mastery.

Ideal candidates have experience teaching or tutoring mathematics, understand K-8 math standards, and are patient, encouraging, adaptable, and committed to student growth.

Then why do we expect them all to learn the same way, at the same pace, on the same day?

Every learner brings different strengths, interests, and needs into the classroom. Learning should be designed around the student, not the other way around.

Personalization doesn’t lower expectations. It gives every child a meaningful pathway to reach them. Education is evolving. Let’s think differently.

If grades are meant to communicate learning...

Then why can a student earn a B while still having major gaps in understanding?

Grades often tell us how a student performed over time, but not always what they truly know.

A strong test score can offset earlier misunderstandings. Extra credit can raise an average without addressing missing skills. A final grade can mask important learning gaps.

Competency-based education asks a different question:

“Can the student consistently demonstrate the skill?”

Because when students leave school, employers, colleges, and communities don’t ask what average they earned, they depend on what they can actually do.

Perhaps it’s time to measure learning in ways that make learning itself more visible.

Education is evolving. Let’s think differently.
