This from our POA…😳:

MAIL THEFT AND BANKING FRAUD IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD

The following e-mail was received today from a concerned member of our community. Please be vigilant and if you do send any checks out in your mailbox take a look and make sure the same thing has not happened to you.
______________
I wanted to advise of a recent mail theft event that happened last week. On 27 February I noticed that a check I had left in my outgoing mail that morning (approximately 9am) was already gone at 11am when I went to add another letter to the outgoing mail. I noticed that the mailbox ‘flag’ was still raised, but wasn’t certain if this was just overlooked by the mailman, who might have picked up mail early.

On 7 March, while looking at my online banking website, I noticed that two ‘fake’ checks had been submitted against my account - one for $4100 and the other for $4300 - and both for check numbers that had not been written yet.

Ultimately, we worked with the bank to stop payment on these checks (which were later determined to be counterfeit) and create new accounts to stop further fraud.

I’ve sent a notification to the Postmaster General about this issue, but would request that you forward this summary to the rest of the neighborhood - specifically advising anyone who sent checks (or any mail) on the 27th to follow-up with the recipients to make sure their letters actually made it.

We will let you know as soon as they advise on what happened. For now, just pay the same amount you paid in December. Thank you for your understanding and patience in the matter.

ALLEYS IN OUR NEIGHBORHOOD

For the most part our alleys are looking good. There are still a few that could really use some clean up. Remember you are responsible to keep the alley behind your house free of debris, dead foliage, overgrown bushes or trees. Also, as another reminder that dog walkers need to pick up after their animals even in the alleys!
