Recent reactions to the personal lives of JoJo Siwa, Billie Eilish, and Fletcher have reignited conversations about bisexuality, q***r identity, and public expectations. Social media users questioned each artist after they were linked romantically with men, prompting discussions about the misconceptions many bisexual and q***r people continue to face. Advocates say these reactions highlight the importance of respecting how individuals define their own identities rather than making assumptions based on who they are dating.

Today, the U.S. Supreme Court issued a decision in the cases of West Virginia v. BPJ and Little v. Hecox. The Court found that transgender athletic bans can remain in place where those laws exist. Transgender youth participating in sports in states with protections can continue and be protected by Title IX. The court also issued its decision in Trump v. Barbara, finding that people born in the United States are citizens, regardless of immigration status. These are monumental cases for PFLAG members and supporters with school-age transgender youth, and for all people who benefit from Title IX and Fourteenth Amendment protections.

“Trans people belong, on and off the field. For PFLAG families living in the many states where transgender youth are barred from participating in sports, today’s decision in B.P.J. means those bans remain in place, continuing to deny their children the opportunity to participate in sports alongside their peers. In states where the law protects them, transgender athletes can continue to be affirmed and included for who they are.

“While we celebrate the Court’s decision to uphold the Fourteenth Amendment and affirm that every person born in the United States is a citizen, we are deeply disappointed that the Court added an asterisk to allow discrimination against transgender student athletes. We have more work to do to ensure every member of our community is treated fairly. PFLAG National and our chapters are deeply committed to continuing the fight for the rights of our families, neighbors, and LGBTQ+ loved ones.”

—Brian K. Bond (he/him), CEO of PFLAG National

Chappell Roan has spoken candidly about the challenges she faced while coming to terms with her sexuality, revealing that she once feared openly gay people because of beliefs she learned growing up. She explained that she is continuing to unlearn those ideas and acknowledged that she still experiences moments of discomfort despite embracing who she is. Her honest reflections have resonated with many fans who say her story highlights the personal journey of self acceptance and growth.

Most of us have heard of the “Let Them” theory — the idea that we can’t control other people, only ourselves.

But we love the idea of a “Tell Them” theory ...

Think your LGBTQ+ child is brave? Tell them.

Notice another parent showing up for their child in a beautiful way? Tell them.

Read a post from an LGBTQ+ person that helped you understand something new? Tell them.

See a teacher, coach, pastor, or friend creating a safer space? Tell them.

Think someone made a difference in your life? Tell them.

The world is already loud with criticism.

For far too many LGBTQ+ people, it’s filled with voices telling them they’re wrong, broken, sinful, confused, or unworthy of love.

Let’s be louder with encouragement.

Never assume someone knows they’re making a difference.
Never assume they know they’re loved.
Never assume they know you’re proud of them.
Never assume they know they matter.

And don’t wait.

Don’t wait until a eulogy to tell someone what they meant to you.

Don’t wait until your child is struggling to tell them how deeply they’re loved.

Don’t wait until someone leaves your life to thank them for how they changed yours.

A few simple words—
“I see you.”
“I’m proud of you.”
“You belong.”
“Thank you.”
“I love you.”

…can become a memory someone carries for years.

The world has enough voices tearing LGBTQ+ people down.

Let’s be intentional about being known as the people who build them up.

If criticism can shape a life, so can encouragement. Let’s be intentional about which one we’re known for. 💜

This year would have been Aretha Franklin's 84th birthday - and the gay community has every reason to celebrate her right alongside her music.

In 2011, when same-sex marriage was still illegal in most of the country, Aretha showed up to sing at the New York wedding of Bill White and Bryan Eure. She performed "Think," "I Say a Little Prayer," and of course "Respect" - a song that had already meant everything to the q***r community for decades.

But her connection to the community ran even deeper than that. Her sister Carolyn - who wrote two of Aretha's biggest hits, including "Ain't No Way" - was openly a le***an, and the song is widely believed to have been written about a woman.

Aretha knew it, recorded it, and helped carry a le***an love song to the top of the charts. And in 1993, when many celebrities were still keeping their distance from the AIDS crisis, she organized a fundraising concert for the Gay Men's Health Crisis.

She didn't just accept us. She showed up.
