❤️ A HUGE THANK YOU FROM THE HEART OF GREEN MOUNTAIN! ❤️
Now that we’ve had a chance to catch our breath (just a little 😂), we want to take a minute to say THANK YOU to all the people who helped make our RAGBRAI day so special!
This day absolutely would NOT have happened without the amazing people who stepped up and helped us along the way. It truly took a village — and Green Mountain showed up BIG! ❤️
🚲 Thank you to all of our volunteers who took time out of their busy schedules to help us throughout the day — from cheering bikers into town, helping wherever needed, keeping up with the garbage, and sticking around for teardown afterward. We couldn’t have done it without you!

📶 Heart of Iowa — thank you for boosting the WiFi for our little town for the day! You helped our vendors keep things running and, more importantly, helped our riders get that perfect selfie with our windmill and post it for the world to see. 😉📸
🌸 Earl May — thank you for donating the beautiful flowers that helped decorate our windmill and make our little town centerpiece even more special!
🪵 Spahn & Rose Lumber Co. — thank you for donating the boards we used to create some much-needed seating for the day!
🏫 GMG Schools — thank you for letting us borrow the bleachers and helping us find a place for everyone to sit and enjoy the day!
🚒 Green Mountain Fire Department — thank you for letting us use the fire trucks to create one of the coolest bike parking areas around! Because apparently in Green Mountain, even bike parking has to be memorable. 😉🚲
🌳 Dean — thank you for letting us use your yard for our vendors. We appreciate you opening up your space and helping us make everything work!
❤️ Bill — thank you for making such a unique donation box for our windmill. It was truly one-of-a-kind and made a special addition to our fundraising efforts!
🚧 And MOST IMPORTANTLY, a HUGE thank you to Con-Struct for working their butts off to get the road open for us so we could pull this whole thing off! We know that was no small job, and we are incredibly grateful for all the hard work that went into making sure Green Mountain was ready to welcome everyone. ❤️

And last, but certainly NOT least…
❤️ THANK YOU to EVERYONE who donated toward restoring our beloved windmill! ❤️
We are still receiving some donations, and we are so incredibly thankful for every single person who has contributed. Every dollar, every kind word, every share, and every bit of support means more than you know.
Our crew of 5 is now working together to figure out the best way to get our windmill restored and back to being the shiny, spinning centerpiece of Green Mountain that we all love. ❤️

So please stay tuned, like and follow our page, and watch for updates as we figure out what comes next!

We started this journey hoping to restore a windmill, but along the way, we were reminded that what we’re really restoring is a little piece of Green Mountain’s heart. ❤️
Thank you to everyone who helped us make this day happen. We are so proud of our little town and the BIG hearts in it.

After the Thursday edition of the Times-Republican went to press, the RAGBRAI festivities were far from over as Katie and the H***y Tonks and the Pork Tornadoes rocked the main downtown stage with food trucks still set up all around before riders headed back to their camping or lodging accommodations for the night and prepared for the longest single-day ride in the event’s history, 87.1 miles to Independence, on Thursday morning.

Once the sun came up, riders headed east on Main Street past MARSHALLTOWN Company, Ryerson and Lennox before eventually turning north on Wallace Avenue as some stopped in the tiny unincorporated community of Green Mountain for breakfast and then continued on until they departed Marshall County, hitting Beaman, Grundy Center, Morrison and Reinbeck along the way.

GREEN MOUNTAIN — For a few hours, the population of the unincorporated Marshall County community of Green Mountain grew exponentially on Thursday morning as thousands of RAGBRAI riders stopped by for breakfast and rest as part of the long journey from Wednesday’s overnight in Marshalltown to Thursday’s in Independence. The sudden influx of visitors provided a unique opportunity for a group of five residents who are leading efforts to restore the village’s historic windmill, which is in need of major repairs with limited funding to do so.

The committee had a booth set up near the fire station explaining their mission, and Heart of Iowa Communications was handing out water while accepting free will donations for the windmill. One of the committee members, John Winters, explained that the windmill was destroyed in a 2011 storm and has only gotten worse during subsequent weather events. The estimated cost of repairs is as high as $12,000, and according to Winters, it will require taking the gearbox apart, putting new bearings in and replacing the blades.
