Every year we partner with the Lions Club to buy presents for all the local preschools and head starts. It is our most rewarding project! This year Tyler Horn and his crew from Wanzek Contruction reached out and wanted to help with this project.

They purchased, helped wrap, and distribute nearly 300 Christmas presents to every child at The Learning Center of Green Forest, ABC Preschool, Green Forest Head Start, Giggles and Grins, and The Learning Center of Alpena.

Their crew worked so hard to help make Christmas a little better for 300 children in our community. We are very thankful for their help!

So, you didn't get a float together! Well, ride your decorated side-by-side or lawn mower! We have several every year! Just put on a little tinsel, wear funny antlers from Dollar General and have a good time!

Walk together with your friends and family! Wave at the crowd as you throw candy to the excited kids along the route!

We love kids on decorated bicycles!

Miss Green Forest Sofia Cenobio will be there! So will prosecuting attorney Tony Rogers! We're expecting the Little Tigers, those fun 10-year-olds who won that big national soccer tournament in Florida last weekend!

Cowboy Church is coming -- although they're as disappointed as we are that this year horses have to stay home because of the statewide EHV-1 quarantine.

Join us! Green Forest Christmas parade, 10 a.m., Saturday, December 6!

Line up in one of the four lanes that will be set up in front of the Old Gym at 9 a.m. on Saturday, December 6.

The parade starts at 10 a.m. at the Old Gym, progresses to the Square, down Main Street to the Methodist Church, then back to school. To enter the judging for cash prizes, click HERE:

Today over Thanksgiving dinner, talk with everybody about being in the Green Forest Christmas parade! You've got plenty of time to get ready!

It's still more than a week until the Green Forest Christmas parade, 10 a.m., Saturday, December 6!

We love decorated bicycles! Wear an elf's hat and put antlers on your 10-year-old riding that bike festooned with Christmas tree tinsel!

Do you own a flatbed trailer? Know somebody who does? Ask your landlord! Your next-door neighbor! Have fun decorating it! Pile everybody on board and have a great time waving at the crowd and tossing candy to excited little kids!

Around 9 a.m., line up in one of the four lanes that will be set up in front of the Old Gym on Saturday, December 6.

We're enormously saddened that this year there'll be no horses! The state Department of Agriculture and our local veterinarians say the EHV-1 virus is just too risky for all those equines we love. The disease doesn't affect people, but humans can carry it from horse to horse -- so we're going along with the statewide quarantine. No horses this year!

The parade starts at 10 a.m. at the Old Gym, progresses to the Square, down Main Street to the Methodist Church, then back to school. To enter the judging for cash prizes, click HERE:

Horses have had a vital role in Green Forest’s Christmas parade for more than a century. But due to a deadly virus, not this year.

That’s a hard call since our town was founded on horseback.

Only after receiving strong counsel from local veterinarians, the Chamber of Commerce is reluctantly bowing to the state Department of Agriculture’s quarantine on equine events.

The deadly EHV – 1 virus is harmless to humans, but highly contagious. All it takes is a small horse-living kid patting a parade mount’s muzzle to take it home and wipe out his family’s remuda.

To keep everyone’s horses safe, we’re going to ask everybody to leave their horses at home.

“It’s just not worth it,” advised St Francis clinic’s Dr. Ron Eby. “The disease is really unpredictable, so I say horses should stay home this year.”

Dr Blaine Andrews of Green Forest’s Town & Country veterinary clinic agreed. He checked the latest guidelines for us and advised the parade should not have any horses Saturday, December 6.

Thank you for understanding.

Good news! Santa has confirmed he will be at the Green Forest Christmas parade at 10 am Saturday, December 6!

And Green Forest Shelter Insurance guy Cody Qualls will be wandering around the staging area in front of the Old Gym, then on the Square … picking his favorite entries! He’ll hand out checks after the parade — $100 for the Grand Champion, then $25 in our various categories.

To participate, get into one of the four lanes in front of the Old Gym around 9!
