We hope everyone had a wonderful MLK Day 2026! It was a sunny day filled with beautiful music, inspiring speakers, and full hearts.

City of Green Cove Springs Government and Clay County officials—including Sheriff Michelle Cook and Police Chief Shawn Hines—participated in this collaborative event coordinated by former Mayor Connie Butler, the Palmetto Community Development Corporation, Inc., and Bright Light Caregiving, LLC.

In full support were Scout Troop 577, Legacy Springs 4-H Group, St. James Church of God in Christ, Hickory Grove Baptist Church Children’s Choir, Friends of the Augusta Savage Arts & Community Center, Inc., and the Soul Food Festival principals.

Reminder: MLK Day Ceremony is Tomorrow!

The City of Green Cove Springs, in partnership with the Palmetto Community Development Corporation and Bright Light Catering, warmly invites you to a special community ceremony honoring the life and enduring legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. This meaningful event will feature a keynote address by Thomas Huggins III, President and CEO of Ariel Business Group, and will celebrate Dr. King’s vision of unity, service, and hope.

Date: Monday, January 19, 2026
Time: 11:00 a.m.
Location: Vera Francis Hall Park
1400 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., Green Cove Springs, FL

This family-friendly celebration is open to all, and we encourage the entire community to attend and take part in this inspiring remembrance.

As a reminder, City buildings and services will be closed tomorrow and will reopen on Tuesday, January 20. Trash will be picked up on your next scheduled day.

Palmetto CDC Clay is honored to have participated in the City of Green Cove Springs Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Weekend Events! Today, members from the community gathered at Vera Francis Hall Park for the Drive-Through Food Pantry — providing “Free Food for the Soul!” in the true spirit of service and unity.

Palmetto CDC Clay President, Cheryl King, Board Member, Dr. Cheryl Gonzalez, and former Mayor Constance "Connie" Butler, organizer and Palmetto Community Development Corporation, Inc.'s 2026 Honorary Fundraising Chair. were in attendance to support this meaningful weekend of remembrance, community building, and collaboration.

We are grateful to the City of Green Cove Springs Government and all contributors, sponsors, churches, and community organizations who made this weekend possible. Together, we continue working toward a stronger, healthier, and more unified Clay County.
