Our brothers and sisters just to the south of us doing some great work!! We have been getting out checking our own boxes in the Nicolet National Forest and seeing some success!!

More than 45 Hen Houses now line the shores of Lake Poygan and the greater Wolf River area, giving mallard hens safe havens from predators during the critical spring nesting season.

Installed by Delta Waterfowl’s Wolf River Chapter along the 14,000 acre shallow lake northeast of Oshkosh, these elevated structures boost nest success rates to 60 percent and sometimes as high as 80 percent or more, helping more ducks join the fall flight.

Earlier today, Wisconsin representatives voted to pass Assembly Bill 117, a measure that would establish a hunting season for sandhill cranes in Wisconsin.

Delta Waterfowl has supported this legislation for years, including supporting the 2024 Legislative Council Study Committee, testifying in the Assembly and Senate, and bringing volunteers to the capitol in support of the bill.

The bill now moves to the Wisconsin Senate. We appreciate Rep. Paul Tittl and Speaker Robin Vos for their leadership and are hopeful for a favorable outcome in the Senate.

We see our first big migration of GPS marked mallards every year around the end of October or early November, but weather conditions add variation to migration timing. We have been following this drake mallard for the past two years and over 8,200 miles which allows us to track his fall migration timing across the years. Multiyear data sets are critical for understanding how weather and other variables influence migration timing. Interestingly, this drake’s migration timing, migration routes, and wintering locations are different year to year, but he has chose to molt on the exact same pond the previous 2 years.

Don't eat mallard ducks from lower Green Bay: That's the word from Wisconsin natural resources and health officials.

👏 The Knowles-Nelson Stewardship Program provides more access and opportunities for outdoor pursuits like hunting, fishing, and trapping. We applaud Senator Patrick Testin and Representative Tony Kurtz for working to continue this critical program. THANK YOU for standing with Wisconsin’s hunters, anglers and trappers.
