🎙️ Friday Recap from Beyond the Bleeds!

What does it mean to grow up with hemophilia and still have a childhood that feels like a childhood?

In this clip from this week’s episode of Beyond the Bleeds, Christopher George reflects on growing up with severe hemophilia during a very different era of treatment. Despite the challenges, his parents worked to make life as normal as possible, giving him the freedom to explore, play with friends, and simply be a kid. As Christopher puts it, “I had a good childhood, and I happened to have hemophilia.”

Join us Wednesday, October 28 for an evening of dinner, community updates, and fall fun! Hear from HOC’s Board of Directors and CEO, followed by trick-or-treating throughout the clinic and a friendly decorating competition between our business and medical teams. Kids are encouraged to wear their Halloween costumes and will get to cast their votes for the best-decorated side! 👻🍬

Part 1 of a special two-part conversation is here! This week, Heather and John are joined by Christopher George and his daughter, Felicity Grajeda, to share their family’s unique experience with hemophilia.

Christopher takes us back to what it was like growing up with severe hemophilia, from navigating bleeds and learning to self-infuse to finding independence and watching treatment evolve over the years. Felicity shares her perspective growing up surrounded by the bleeding disorders community, knowing she could be a carrier, and how her family made hemophilia something they could talk about openly.

Together, Christopher and Felicity offer two perspectives on the same family story and share how hemophilia has influenced their experiences, relationships, and outlook along the way.

Nicole, over the past three years you've become such an important part of HOC. Your kindness and welcoming personality shine through in everything you do. You always seem to have a smile on your face, and you have a genuine way of making patients, families, and those around you feel comfortable and cared for.

You're also simply a joy to work with. You're quick to share a laugh, always willing to help, and bring such a positive energy to the team. Behind that warmth and sense of humor is someone who is incredibly driven and consistently goes above and beyond to support HOC and the people we serve.

Help us give a warm welcome to Jaclyn, our new Courier and PSR Assistant at HOC Wausau!

Jaclyn brings a unique combination of healthcare and business experience to the HOC team, including five years as a CNA working in surgery and traveling, along with 14 years of experience in the financial industry. Throughout her career, she has remained dedicated to caring for others, providing support, and building long-lasting relationships with the people she serves. She’s excited to bring that same commitment to the patients, families, and team at HOC Wausau.

Outside of work, Jaclyn runs her own small spice blend company and enjoys spending time outdoors with her family and pets.

Help us give a warm welcome to Samantha, our new Medical Billing Specialist at HOC!

Samantha enjoys combining problem-solving, organization, and customer service to support patients and help make their healthcare experience a little easier. Whether she’s resolving billing questions, working with insurance payers, or assisting her colleagues, she approaches each task with accuracy and compassion. She values the opportunity to learn something new every day and is excited to be part of a team that shares her commitment to excellence and patient care.

Outside of work, Samantha loves spending time with her husband and their three cats. She also enjoys gardening and embroidery, which give her a creative outlet and a chance to unwind.
