💛 This morning, representing the Altrusa Club of Green Bay, Mary Hanzel and Theresa Doxtater had the privilege of making and serving a hot breakfast to the guests of the Altrusa Hospitality House — and it was a morning none of us will soon forget.

Behind every door in that house is a story. A daughter who just learned her father — injured in a serious car accident and is paralyzed from the neck down— had to be intubated.

A wife holding her family together while her husband fights for his life in the ICU, more than 20 days in, praying for a transplant, with four children counting on her.

A couple on the edge of a beautiful new chapter — retirement and travels ahead — as her husband recovers from an orthopedic procedure.

We came to serve breakfast. We left with full hearts.

These guests remind us of what it means to be human — the courage, the love, and the resilience it takes to sit in the hard places with the people we cherish most. We are so grateful to offer even a small measure of warmth and comfort during their journey.

Hugs were exchanged. Strength was shared. And that is exactly what the Altrusa Hospitality House is all about. 🤍

On Wednesday, May 20, Altrusa International of Green Bay celebrated a successful school year at Nicolet Community School by presenting each scholar (4K to 5th Grade) with a new book of their own to take home for the summer reading.

Altrusans spent the day visiting each classroom, where students and Altrusans talked about their love of reading. Each student received two bookmarks to color (one to keep for themselves, one to share) and the opportunity to choose a new book of their own, plus a letter for parents explaining what Altrusa International is and the available summer reading opportunities for families.

Thanks to the Brown County Library, Altrusans had blank library cards to pass around to encourage participation in the library's summer reading program, which opens for registration on June 6. That "magic card," the Nicolet scholars learned, will take them on great adventures this summer!

Altrusa International of Green Bay has served the community for 92 years. Its main mission is encouraging literacy in our community through school and community partnerships, providing scholarships, and partnering on other projects with organizations such as the Altrusa Hospitality House and Habitat for Humanity, and others.

🎉 Celebrating Our ASTRA Scholarship Winner! 🎉

Altrusa International of Green Bay is thrilled to announce that Irene Ertman, Co President of the Notre Dame Academy ASTRA Club, has been awarded a $2,000 ASTRA Scholarship from the Altrusa International Foundation! Only two $2,000 scholarships are awarded each year across all ASTRA clubs worldwide — and Irene earned one of them.

Irene has been an incredible leader, including spearheading the ASTRA Club’s bake sale/book drive, where students and faculty exchanged donated books for delicious baked goods made by our amazing Altrusa bakers. Together, they collected 502 books to support local literacy efforts!

This fall, Irene will head to Boston College to major in Social Work, continuing her commitment to serving others.

Please join us in congratulating Irene on this outstanding achievement. We are so proud of her and excited to see all the good she will continue to do! 💙✨

Cutness overload filled the National Railroad Museum today as Altrusa International of Green Bay partnered with Leader Dogs for the Blind and the Howard‑Suamico Lions Club for a day dedicated to literacy, learning, and Leader Dog puppies.

Families enjoyed hands‑on activities, met the adorable puppies beginning their journey toward becoming life‑changing guides, and discovered how these remarkable dogs bring independence to individuals who are blind or sight‑impaired.

What a beautiful celebration of service, community, and the power of literacy to open doors for all.
