Biography:
When Beaux Lucas Mettler was born on Nov. 9, 1990, his parents were so excited to have given birth to a baby boy. Within just a few minutes after entering this world, Beaux was at the forefront of a series of heart surgeries that would become an integral part of his family’s lives. Beaux was born with “Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome”. He had to endure a heart surgery every year for th
e first five years of life. He gained weight slowly, but his zest for life grew rapidly. At the age of three, Beaux began to walk. At the age of eight he could ride a bike. Beaux entered grade school with much determination. He regularly showed acts of kindness to his friends, family, and even strangers. Because of his extraordinary thoughtfulness, he received the “Citizenship Award” from the Ashwaubenon School District in Wisconsin. His father, Perry, an estimator for a large printing corporation, and his mother, Mary, a business owner, were equally excited with the unusual talents their youngest child possessed. When Beaux was six, his older sister Jessica bought him, on a whim, a nine hundred piece Lego set of a large battleship. Beaux was instantly hooked and soon was spending hours every day constructing trucks, spaceships, airplanes, and the list goes on. Beaux especially enjoyed the creativity that this hobby promoted. As Beaux grew older, he entered middle school, then onto high school. Beaux graduated high school in June of 2009. After graduation, he enrolled in the Mechanical Design Program at Northeastern Wisconsin Technical College. He was becoming proficient in the software packages for Mechanical Design on the computer. In May, 2011, Beaux received an honorary diploma from the technical college. He had also moved out of his parent’s home and into a home that his sister Jessica bought that year. Beaux welcomed a new sense of freedom and the responsibility of living on his own. In February of 2011, Beaux came down with a respiratory illness. After one month in the hospital, he was sent home for rehabilitation. Three weeks later, Beaux was back in the hospital due to complications. On May 7, 2011, Beaux passed away. No death is more difficult to comprehend than your own child’s. Thankfully, Beaux’s spirit lives on through his Foundation.
