Our story:

Bruce Elliott Railroad Slides Inc/Pocahontas County Society of Model engineers is an ongoing production of my father's and my personal railroad photographs. Their are well over15,000 photos to work with and to date I offer 14 different CD's with probably no less than another dozen to go, given time to do so. In October 2016 a book was released on the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad's Pitts

burgh Division through Arcadia Press. This book was written by Bruce Elliott, and features photos from his Pittsburgh Div. The book sells for $20.00 with a signature and $23.00 without. Contact us for your copy now! The Pocahontas County Society of Model Engineers is my personal model railroad that resides here on the property, and was started in 2014. The Piedmont Division of the B&O is a unique venture in promoting rail transportation in the early ā€˜50s via the medium of Model Railroading in HO scale. As a result of the many years spent photographing the B&O in 12 of the 13 states in which it operated, and a life long interest in model railroading, the layout showcases five locations from around the system a they appeared in the early ā€˜50s, right down to correct railroad structures and rolling stock, as well as vehicles. All of this is the result of three decades of research of the locations which include: Point of Rocks, Md., Fairmont, W. Va., Patterson Creek, W. Va., Garrett, Pa., and Somerset, Pa. The town of Point of Rocks is complete as is the locomotive facilities at Fairmont. The rest of the layout is under construction (but operating). Visitors are welcome but we do ask that you call ahead to see if I’m going to be home. We can be reached at: 304-456-5389 (leave a message) or at the train building at: 304-456-5480.

From the inside !
This is camp #1. On the other side below is Garrett. The track to the left goes down to the saw mill. The box car is on the store room track, the blacksmith car and the log loader are on the blacksmith track. To the right of the log loader is the foundation for the kitchen/dining room. The Shay and the cab are on separate passing sidings and in the upper left is the track for the double deck dormitory car. The end of the line is at the right. All track here is code 70 and code 55.

Have a blessed Fathers Day on Sunday !

The yard at Camp #1 us coming along.
The log train made it up under its own power. The line from the saw mill to camp #1 is an average of 8%. PFM three truck Shay's have no problem with half a dozen log cars. Rail at this point is code 70 and code 55 on the four stub end sidings. No Rivarossi pizza cutter flanges which actually ride the tie plates on code 83 track. Have a blessed week !

What a difference a week makes !
This completes benchwork on the layout. Turnouts are placed in their approximate locations. It is a little over 20 ft. back to the saw mill. It looks like a vertical drop, but it will be more like 50 deg. Being satisfied with the track arrangement, this will also complete layout track design. Have a blessed week !

Bird S**t Hollow complete !
More trees and line poles made the difference. For the time being I'm out of trees until this Fall's harvest of Seedum.

Jackson St. and the CC&L branch at Garrett !
Their is approximately a 3% grade here on Jackson St. from L to R. Woodland Scenics risers fit the bill and a piece of poster board gave me a smooth surface. On this side of the street at the left is the Garrett Hotel and the VFD. On the other side L to R, a grade crossing shanty, a news stand, Polfronz Grocery, Fritzies Grocery and the start of residential houses. Years ago when I was doing research on the town, I was amazed that there was two groceries side by side. I was told that they did very well for years. What one didn't carry, the other did. Have a blessed week. Lets remember Memorial Day on Monday, for those who never made it out of their uniform, and not a time for sports and parties.

The cut at Bird S**t Hollow is now getting attention.
This is a start for trees on the left side of the track. Line poles will follow after trees are planted. QD196 rounds the curve en route to Cumberland.

Its the details that make the difference !
Lots of finished layouts have areas with trees, but I seldom see any wildlife on them. The area above and behind Patterson Creek actually has wildlife, deer, bear and a fox. Oh, you have to look for them, but like reality, they're there. Its spring and a doe rests with her two fawns. Have a blessed week !

GRS switch motors at Garrett ! Switch motors and/or Armstrong interlocking is a detail often overlooked on model railroads. A caboose Industries ground throw or a Tortoise switch machine is all to often satisfactory for the masses. Turnout operation at Garrett was controlled by GRS electro-pneumatic operation. GA tower is at the left. The structure at the right was two fold, the left half housed the equipment to control the switch motors and the right half was a coal house for the tower.
Have a blessed week ! Sunday is Mothers Day, let us not forget them.
