Our thoughts and prayers are with Travis Johnson family during this rough time. We have lost a member of the Greeley Fire & Rescue Team and ask you to join his family and friends Wednesday night at The Old Gym in Greeley and remember one of our own. The family are also asking people to join them after the Celebration of Life at The Old Brick Palace to remeber Travis.
How do we even begin to put into words the devastating loss of the heart and soul of The Greeley Rodeo Committee? In true Travis fashion, we won’t keep it short and sweet.
Travis was a man of many words. Most being encouraging words, if you can believe that! In fact, you could often catch him saying “oh common give’em a chance.” There is a long list of examples. I’ll share the most recent one that comes to mind. Just recently, Travis became invested in the youth of our rodeo community. He preached about how important it was to involve the young generation in our rodeo because they are in fact the future of rodeo. Travis was asked to have a Rookie Rough Stock division at the two rodeo’s that we hosted this summer. He didn’t think twice about it. “Yep, give’em a chance. Even if they only ride for a second.” That was Travis, always believing in everyone!
Travis poured everything he had into making the rodeos successful for the town of Greeley. From going business to business and town to town harassing (the ol’ Travis way) individuals for donations to pulling the gate on the bucking chutes. He truly did it all.
Travis did everything in his power to recognize, award, and memorialize any individual in the rodeo community who needed it. If Travis only had a dime, he’d still give you a quarter. He was a giving soul and a good man.
Travis’ dream was to throw a heck of a rodeo for the 50th annual. A record crowd in attendance at the rodeo and a famous country singer to end the night at the street dance. We think he did just that. A year ago, Travis said “we are making this happen”. He sure went out with a bang.
It was clear to everyone that Travis’ #1 in life was his family. Travis’ daughter Olivia was the light of his life. It was very evident that he loved her dearly! Travis’ #2 seemed to be his Rodeo Committee. He just recently referred to the committee members as his “batteries”. He claimed that we kept things running. Without us, he wouldn’t be able to operate and throw such successful rodeos. Well Travis, we are now missing our remote.
To our fearless leader, our friend, our remote, we thank you for everything. We already know you are throwing the biggest rodeo in heaven and we can’t wait to join someday.
Ride on cowboy. We’ll take it from here.
