Originally built as Colorado’s only nuclear power plant before being transformed into the Fort St. Vrain Generating Station, this facility carries a history unlike any other.

Having the opportunity for our NOCO Regional Special Operations Team to train in an environment like this was not only a unique experience, but an invaluable one.

Training in real-world, complex facilities helps prepare our crews for the challenges they may face, and opportunities like this don’t come around every day. Huge thank you to Xcel Energy for opening your doors and allowing us to utilize such a one-of-a-kind site for training. We appreciate the collaboration and the chance to learn in a setting with so much history behind it.

Recently, three of our firefighters — Jimmy McAllister, Juan Martinez, and John Bolduc — had the opportunity to attend a training hosted by South Adams County Fire Department and Relentless Rescue Solutions. They spent the day sharpening their skills, learning new rescue techniques, and gaining valuable hands-on experience.

One highlight of the training was the opportunity to demo the Thomas Life Capsule and see how it can be utilized in challenging victim rescue situations we may encounter in the field.

Strong work, guys — always pushing to learn, train, and be better for the communities we serve!

Fire family — let’s rally around Ken and remind them they are not walking this road alone. ❤️

Berthoud Fire Lieutenant Ken Bradley, a respected leader, teacher, and dedicated firefighter known by so many in our fire community, was critically injured in a devastating head-on collision while driving to work. Ken has already undergone multiple surgeries and faces a long road to recovery ahead.

As firefighters, we show up for strangers on their worst days. Now it’s our turn to show up for one of our own.

Ken’s wife, Carol, and their three children are facing unimaginable challenges as they make daily trips to be by his side while navigating medical expenses, travel costs, and the many unknowns that come with a recovery of this magnitude.

If you are able, please consider donating, sharing, or simply keeping the Bradley family in your thoughts during this incredibly difficult time. Every bit of support matters.

Little full-circle moment worth highlighting. 🚒

Our last engineer to ever drive the tiller got the honor of driving her to her final destination today… and somehow it also happened to land on his birthday.

Happy Birthday, Luke! Hope you enjoyed one final birthday cruise with the tiller… with a stop at DQ, of course. 🎂
