The members of Barnard Professional Firefighters Local 4030 extend our deepest condolences to all those affected by the recent fire in our community. Incidents like this are heartbreaking reminders of how important fire prevention and early warning systems truly are.

In the days following this tragedy, our members while on duty have been taking extra time to help ensure residents throughout our district have working smoke detectors in their homes. A properly functioning smoke alarm can provide critical early warning and save lives.

We encourage everyone to check their smoke detectors today. Make sure they are working, test them regularly, replace batteries when needed, and ensure you have at least one smoke detector on every floor of your home — especially near sleeping areas.

If you do not currently have smoke detectors in your home, please make getting them installed a priority. A small step today can make a life-saving difference tomorrow.

Please continue to keep the affected families, firefighters, and all first responders involved in your thoughts during this difficult time.

Thank you to programs like the American Red Cross and Monroe County Fire Bureau for help providing detectors across the county!

Today, we pause to honor and remember the brave men and women of our Armed Forces who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our nation. Their courage, dedication, and selflessness will never be forgotten.

As firefighters, we share a similar understanding of service, sacrifice, and commitment to something greater than ourselves. On this Memorial Day, the members of Barnard Professional Firefighters Local 4030 stand in remembrance of those who gave everything to protect the freedoms we enjoy every day.

We also extend our gratitude to the families carrying the weight of that sacrifice and to all those serving our country today.

May we never forget the true meaning of Memorial Day.

Remember. Honor. Never Forget.
