🇺🇸 Memorial Day Parade – May 25, 2026 🇺🇸
Today, the Greece Historical Society proudly joins our community in honoring the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our nation.
As we gather for the Memorial Day Parade, we remember not only the history of our country, but the individuals from our own community whose courage and dedication helped preserve the freedoms we enjoy today. Their stories are an important part of the history we work to preserve each day.
We invite everyone to take a moment to reflect, remember, and honor those who served and never returned home.
Thank you to all veterans, active-duty military personnel, parade participants, volunteers, and community members helping make this day meaningful for generations to come.
Lest We Forget. 🇺🇸

Greece Historical Society to hold Opening Reception for Erie Canal 200 Exhibit
Sunday, May 17 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Greece Museum, 595 Long Pond Rd.

As the historic Erie Canal begins its 201st navigation season this week, you are invited to stop by the Greece Museum to experience its latest exhibit, Four Miles Along the Towpath: South Greece and the Erie Canal. The exhibit was created as a culmination of the Greece Historical Society’s own Erie Canal Bicentennial events.

Check out the exhibit, learn about the history of the canal in our area and the families who settled near it, enjoy some refreshments, have your photo taken with GHS’s very own Erie Canal mule Molly, and view the museum’s other exhibits, including a new exhibit on Youth Groups of Greece.

If you can’t attend the reception, the museum is open to the public from 1:30 to 4:00 PM every Sunday (except for May 24, July 5, and Sept. 6).

Tonight I had the opportunity to attend a great presentation hosted by the Greece Historical Society at the Greece Public Library — “The History of Hamlin Beach State Park” presented by Lara Hargrave.

The turnout was outstanding — a packed room of residents who care deeply about our community and its history.

Like many, I was familiar with the prisoner of war camp that once existed at Hamlin Beach, but I’ll admit I didn’t know about the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) camp and the major role it played in shaping the park we enjoy today.

It’s a great reminder that investing in our community isn’t just about the future — it’s about understanding and preserving our past. Programs like this are what keep our history alive and accessible.

Grateful to everyone involved in putting on such an informative event.
