It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Marie Kanzler, who departed at the age of 90.

Marie commenced her teaching career in Catholic schools and dedicated the majority of her career to educating elementary students within the East Islip School District. She also served as a union representative and continued her commitment to education as president of the East Islip Retired Teachers Union. Throughout her life, Marie remained actively engaged with the East Islip Retiree Unit and Retiree Council 21, consistently demonstrating unwavering support for public education and the teaching profession. We extend our deepest gratitude for her contributions.

Marie is predeceased by her beloved husband and childhood sweetheart, Paul. Together, they raised six children, including former EITA president Nancy Kanzler Close. We kindly request that you keep the Kanzler family in your thoughts and prayers during this challenging time.

A wake will be held on Monday, May 4, 2026, from 3–5 p.m. and 7–9 p.m. at Chapey Funeral Home in East Islip, New York. A funeral Mass will take place on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, at 9:30 a.m. at St. Peter the Apostle R.C. Church in Islip Terrace, New York.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Marie's memory to St. Peter the Apostle R.C. Church, 20 Harrison Avenue, East Islip, NY 11730.
