💕🎉 GOOD NEWS! Leo has returned!!! 🎉💕

Have you seen Leo (also known as Bubba)? He’s one of the sweet feral cats from a colony we care for. He hasn’t been seen in a week and we’re very concerned. Leo is super friendly, microchipped, and ear-tipped. He was last seen in New Hyde Park near Jericho Turnpike and Denton Avenue. If you’ve spotted Leo or have any information, we’d be so grateful if you could let us know! Please contact the Humane Urban Group at 516-273-5557 or email [email protected].

💕BRUNO was adopted!💕

We may never crack the mystery of how Bruno Mars found himself stuck in a window well, but we do know he’s a big, beautiful cuddle-bug with a heart of gold. He’s unbelievably sweet, super affectionate, and he’s ready to trade his rescue story for a furever home full of love (and maybe a cozy lap or two). While his opinion on fellow felines is still a secret, he melts into a puddle of mush around people. Every Humane Urban Group kitty comes packed with purr-sonality and pawsitive vibes: they’ve been FIV/FeLV tested, gotten their first meow-gical vaccines, spayed or neutered, and sport their own microchip! If you live in Nassau, Queens, or Suffolk county and you’re ready to add a sprinkle of purr fection to your home, just fill out HUG’s online application at https://www.humaneurbangroup.org/adoption-application.

💕GOOD NEWS! Bryant was adopted!💕

Bryant was discovered strolling around New Hyde Park, looking for adventure and making new friends. She was so sweet and outgoing, we were certain someone must be missing this little ray of sunshine! Humane Urban Group did their best to track down her family, but sadly, no one came forward to claim her so now she is looking for a furever home. Bryant is about 2 years old and she is a total gem—she adores gentle pets and will happily snuggle up for love. If you’re searching for a cuddle buddy, Bryant’s your girl! While we aren’t sure if she’s a fan of other cats, we think she’d shine brightest as your one-and-only feline queen. All HUG kitties have been tested for FIV/FeLV, received their first round of vaccinations, have been spayed/neutered, and are microchipped for extra peace of mind. If live in Queens, Nassau, or Suffolk County and your heart and home are ready for a playful, purring pal, please complete HUG’s online application: www.humaneurbangroup.org/adoption-application.

Humane Urban Group mourns the loss of Joan Phillips, a devoted champion for animal welfare who passed on February 17th. Joan was a beloved friend and a passionate advocate for animal welfare, dedicating much of her time as a volunteer to animal rescue organizations across Long Island. Through her leadership, she organized free Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) clinics and events, trained trappers, and coordinated with local officials to help humanely control community cat populations. Her generosity shone as she freely shared her expertise and supported others within the animal rescue community.

Joan frequently collaborated with HUG by offering free TNR clinics at The Cat Doctor in New Hyde Park. Together with HUG, she encouraged town supervisor John Kaiman to sponsor free monthly TNR clinics, and collaborating with Diane Levitan (Helping Paws) and Shelter Connection at the Town of North Hempstead Dog Shelter. Joan was always available to lend a helping hand or provide guidance.

When concerns arose after the Town of North Hempstead hired an inexperienced company to trap cats, Joan intervened, training the new trapper herself. Additionally, Joan initiated meetings with Nassau County and various rescue groups to expand humane TNR services to make them more accessible and affordable to residents. Joan’s invaluable contributions and commitment to animals and the rescue community remain celebrated by all who knew her—both people and animals alike.
