Thirty-three-year-old Joyce Noah Mollel and her husband Mikael farm in northern Tanzania, just southwest of Arusha. With five children, ages 2-14, to feed and send to school, Joyce looked for other means of income when she heard about Solar Sister in January 2021 through a local women’s group.

"I joined Solar Sister hoping to improve my family’s livelihood,” Joyce said. “Since then, my sales have been good, and we can afford three meals a day for the family."

Joyce is proud to offer her customers an affordable, cleaner way to prepare meals.

Meet Madam Ramatu, one of Solar Sister’s newest entrepreneurs in Nigeria.
Ramatu (R) joined Solar Sister with great energy and enthusiasm, purchasing eight clean cookstoves and a solar system to launch her new business!
She is eager to bring clean cooking to more women in her community, and she’s already thinking about how to help other women earn income by buying her products to sell to their own customers. Next to her (L) is her Business Development Associate, Fatma Muhammed.

Congratulations to us!!

Solar Sister was selected for the Nigeria Distributed Access through Renewable Energy Scale-Up (DARES) Program. DARES is a World Bank-supported program implemented by the Rural Electrification Agency ( REA). The program aims to increase the deployment of standalone solar solutions, particularly in unserved and underserved rural communities across Nigeria, while improving affordability for end users.

This program will help Solar Sister expand clean energy access for underserved communities while contributing to Nigeria’s broader renewable energy and energy access goals.
