HB 932 - In a sneaky move the MT senate added so many amendments to HB 932 that it May not be enough time for the House to vote on it. I give credit to the politicians for creating situations where they hide behind: It is the process and there is nothing I can do about that! OR , is there?

GREAT FALLS - In February of 2025, Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks acquired 109 acres at the confluence of the Judith and Missouri Rivers in north-central Montana and plans to manage the property as Judith Landing State Park. As part of the initial planning process for the new park, the public is invited to attend one of several open house meetings in May to learn about plans for the park and share their thoughts on how it can best serve visitors, the region, and the local community.

The meetings will be held in an open-house format allowing attendees to drop in at their convenience anytime between 5 to 7 p.m. and visit various information stations set up at the meeting venue. There will be no formal presentation, allowing participants to move through the stations at their own pace and visit directly with FWP staff about the plans for the newly acquired property. Each station will focus on different aspects of the park, such as FWP’s vision for future developments and amenities, the deep and diverse history and cultural resources of the Judith Landing area, and the abundant natural and wildlife resources present within the area. Representatives from FWP will be on hand to meet community members, provide details about the recent park acquisition and future management plans, hear ideas and gather public input, and provide opportunities for the public to become involved in this new state park.

“Whether you’re someone interested in the outdoor recreation opportunities, the significant heritage values of the Judith Landing area, or just want to learn more about FWP’s plans for this new addition to the state park system, this open house is a great opportunity to get involved with the process,” said Cannon Colegrove, FWP recreation manager. “We are hoping to hear from a wide audience of people regarding their vision for this incredible property that will become Montana’s newest state park.”

PLWA really, really, really, cares about Public Access. Fight for it or Loose IT.

We are fortunate in Montana to have an amazing conservation history and ethos. As 2024 comes to a close, we'd like to send along a HUGE thank you to all of the clubs and groups that supported us this year as sponsors. PLWA wouldn't be able to defend and maintain public access in Montana without their support and continued commitment! If you want to join the ranks of these clubs, reach out to learn more about business sponsorships with PLWA.

From our family to yours, wishing you a very Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!

“You’ve been pheasant hunting all season long and you’ve collected a few stunning pheasant feathers, what do you do with them now? Instead of letting them sit off to the side somewhere, take advantage of the beautiful tail feathers and create a centerpiece yourself to celebrate the holiday season. Let me walk you through how I created a Christmas themed table centerpiece highlighting pheasant feathers for about $10. My favorite part of this idea, is I was able to forage for a lot of these materials outside right around me, and I can put them back outside when the holidays are over. This is an excellent way to show off your upland adventures from this season. I’ve never done something like this before, and it was very easy and fun to assemble – I highly encourage you to give it a try!

If you’ve created something using pheasant feathers, tell us about it in the comments. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year’s!”

"I am grateful for Montana's public lands and other lands that are open to the public for hunting and other outdoor recreation. I treasure Montana's wildlife and access to it. That's why I support the Montana Wildlife Federation with an automatic monthly donation. The MWF shows up to protect all that outdoorsy people like me cherish."

A HUGE thank you to the Madison Gallatin Trout Unlimited (MGTU) for their club sponsorship of PLWA this year. MGTU has been a conservation powerhouse in southwest Montana for nearly 60 years and over that period have been staunch advocates for wild trout management and stream access.
