SHADE - Tanzania

SHADE - Tanzania Empowering those affected by albinism and other vulnerabilities in Tanzania. Shade's three main areas of focus are education, advocacy, and outreach.

Shade is a Christian organization empowering children, families, and communities affected by albinism and other vulnerabilities in Tanzania. Our vision is that people with albinism and other vulnerabilities are accepted and respected in their communities and live as productive citizens, safe and free from persecution. Education: We are building Shade School, a place of unity amidst diversity, wher

e all children are accepted and valued. Advocacy: We believe that mindsets can be changed through education and awareness-raising. We aim to educate people on the truths of albinism and fight for their rights in society. Outreach: We aim to be fully present in our community in order to love and empower our neighbors holistically. All of Shade’s work is infused with the Gospel message. True transformation will come when all people experience the forgiveness of Jesus towards them, the Father heart of God revealed to them, and the empowering work of the Holy Spirit guiding them. When faced by the power of God’s love, violence and prejudice against people with albinism will not stand.

Our 2026 Jack Grubbs Memorial Love in Action Challenge wraps up in just 3 days!

If we can raise $2,188more this weekend, we'll hit our goal of fundraising $20,000 to be matched by Girvan and Janet! This means our $40,000 construction cost for new bathrooms on the Shade campus will be totally covered.

Help us cross the finish line by making a donation here ➡ https://shadetz.charityfootprints.com/shade

Shade students are incredible! Not only are they learning about their own dignity and worth, they're boldly sharing the truth about albinism with others.

At a recent Shade advocacy event, students with albinism spoke to a group of secondary school students to share about their experiences living with albinism.

We couldn't be more proud. 💙

Last week, the Shade campus celebrated the International Day of the Boy Child! Here are a couple of highlights:

⭐ Throughout the week, teachers connected one-on-one with each boy in their classroom to offer encouragement and support.

⭐ A community police officer came to campus for a presentation about positive behavior, responsibility, and how to grow in character as young men.

We're so proud of all of the boys on our campus!

May is Skin Cancer Awareness month.

The UN reports that people with albinism, particularly in Africa, are up to 1,000 times more likely to develop skin cancer. Swipe through to see a few facts regarding skin cancer prevention and sunscreen usage from the The Skin Cancer Foundation.

At Shade, we're committed to raising awareness about the challenges that come with albinism and providing practical solutions. Our students with albinism receive sunscreen and protective gear, as well as education about how to care for their skin!

We're one week into our Love in Action Challenge, and we can't believe the progress we've made! Participants have already raised almost $12,000 for our new bathrooms.

This week, we asked our Tanzanian Executive Director, John Migila, about his exercise routines as a person with albinism. Check out his answers!

Worker's Day in TZ!

May 1st was Workers Day in Tanzania, and our staff enjoyed a well deserved day to rest and celebrate! We truly have some of the most joyful and dedicated staff around, and we are so grateful for the many ways they serve and care for our school, students, and community each day.
