RESTORING NATURE: When designing garden beds for pollinators, plant forage plants in masses (at least three square feet, if possible) to create better visual attractants for the insects and to permit more efficient foraging. Ideally, your garden will link with the gardens of neighbors and connect beyond to existing native plant community fragments and corridors.
See the recorded presentation “Partnering with Pollinators” (beginning at 0:54:47) for more details on this and other best gardening practices to support pollinators.

The Great Falls Garden Club invites you to our Annual Plant Sale at the Great Falls Library. We will have a wide variety of member-donated plants that do well in the Great Falls area, including selections for both sun and shade, as well as some deer-resistant options. Whether you are an experienced gardener or just looking to add something new to your yard, there will be plenty to explore. Come browse beautiful plants, connect with fellow garden lovers, and take home something special for your garden. The sale will be held rain or shine, and we would love to see you there.

The grounds are wreathed in gold... Packera aurea has arrived! Also known as golden groundsel, this bright yellow bloom can be found all over Glenstone’s grounds.

This native plant is commonly found throughout much of eastern North America. It is widely distributed at Glenstone for two reasons: it easily reproduces by seed and (most importantly), deer don’t eat it.

As our Landscape Superintendent Matt likes to say, “Everything you see growing at Glenstone is deer resistant: because if it’s still here, the deer don’t like to eat it.”

MASTER GARDENER VIRTUAL CLASSROOM: Are you interested in adding native plant species to your garden? In this recorded overview presentation “Selecting Native Pants for Your Home Garden,” Extension Master Gardener Elaine Mills describes how to choose beautiful native plants appropriate for the conditions of your garden, illustrating their use in a variety of garden scenarios, including forest settings; lawns, hedgerows, and foundations; rain gardens; dry streetscapes; or a wildlife garden. The video ends with a virtual tour of a native plants garden and is accompanied by a detailed plants list with links to fact sheets on characteristics and care.
