Great Falls Ski Club Member Information
Hello and thank you for your interest in our wonderful ski club! Our club enjoys a rich history and association with the ski area currently known as Showdown. In 1936 a few early skiers pioneered up Kings Hill Pass and established a small ski area on Porphyry Peak (now the top of Showdown),
an effort that resulted in the King’s Hill Pass Ski Area. From that point on the pioneers established the Great Falls Ski Club and took ownership of the ski area. George Willett purchased the ski area from the club in 1973 and renamed it Showdown Ski Area. You can join at any time during the year but we encourage people to join in September (our first general membership meeting of the year). You must join by the December meeting in order to maximize the clubs benefits. Membership dues are $30.00 which gives you two free drink tickets at our meetings, a light dinner at every other meeting, an annual Christmas dinner as well as other benefits. The only revenue the club makes is through Memberships and our annual Ski Swap. This fundraiser allows members, as well as the public, to consign their old equipment. We also bring in outside vendors which sell equipment as well. The Club supports the community in various ways including the Highway Cleanup program, donating for improvements to Showdown and by supporting skier education. The club takes yearly ski trips to both in-state and out-of-state resorts. This is one of the greatest ways to meet new members. The club also volunteers to work the famous “Mannequin Jump” contest at Showdown, in which you build a mannequin to launch off a gigantic jump and the mannequin is judged on several factors. We also host a semi-formal dance during the year called “Snow Ball.” This is a great time to meet people as well, put on your formal clothes (optional) and dance the night away! General Membership meetings are held the 3rd Thursday of each month from September – April at 7:00 pm. at Eagles Manor Conference Hall, located at 1509 9th St. South Great Falls. Board meetings are held the 1st Monday of every month at the same location at 6:00pm
Thank you for your time and consideration! Andy Ferrin
