Electric City Opportunities LLC "Empowering careers for all" Great Falls, MT- An Employment First group. Electric City Opportunities is a culmination of my own 15-year journey of employment.

Growing up in a small-rural community with a disability, I understand the importance of and critical need for community resources and when they aren't there- it can feel like you're on your own. Electric City Opportunities was founded on the belief that "competitive-community-employment is the most effective therapeutic".

You didn’t ask for it but we could all use a little (or big) pep talk. This isn’t X’s and O’s. It’s a little motivation to get us through this work week. This week there were some great submissions. 2 stood out.

“Oversight of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and the Office of Special Education and Rehabilitative Services (OSERS) is moving to the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). “- NPR

This means; a guy with a worm in his brain and makes questionable decisions with animals will be making the final policy decisions about rehabilitation for individuals with disabilities. This has many dangerous implications. Remember that you are more than a diagnosis. When is enough, enough?

We just want to take a second and celebrate pride month.

Historically, members of the LGBTQIA+ community and the supported employment community have higher rates of unemployment and are more likely to be underemployed.

The intersection of the LGBTQIA+ community and supported employment is an important but often under-discussed area of disability inclusion, workforce development, and social justice. Many individuals belong to both communities simultaneously—for example, a person may identify as LGBTQIA+ and also have an intellectual/developmental disability, autism, mental health condition, traumatic brain injury, or other disability that qualifies them for supported employment services. Understanding this intersectionality helps everyone create more inclusive and effective employment supports.
