The Big Muddy Clean Sweep is back for Missouri River Relief's 25th anniversary, and volunteer registration opens this Friday!

From August through September, we'll travel down the Missouri River from Kansas City to Columbia, partnering with communities along the way to remove trash on and along the banks of the Big Muddy by boat.

Whether you've volunteered with us before or have never set foot on the river, we'd love to have you join us. We provide the boats, life jackets, and cleanup materials.

Here’s where you can join the effort:
Aug. 15 – Sugar Creek
Aug. 22 – Lexington
Aug. 26 – Waverly
Aug. 30 – Miami
Sept. 3 – Dalton Bottoms
Sept. 12 – Glasgow
Sept. 19 – Boonville

Registration opens June 12. Check out our event webpage to get signed up:

Day 5: Museums are Essential
Our Lewis and Clark Interpretive Center is essential because it keeps our part of the Expedition’s story alive and provides an understanding of the plethora of Lewis and Clark references in Sioux City. Through school tours, we teach children the importance of the Sgt Floyd Monument as his grave site.

Sioux City has many references to the Corps of Discovery: our ball team is called the Explorers and they play at Lewis and Clark Park; there is Floyd Blvd, Floyd River, and Floyd Golf Course. Additionally, we have Lewis Blvd, Clark Elementary School, and Lewis and Clark Elementary School in South Sioux City. And many more!

The Lewis and Clark Expedition was running out of river.
By the summer of 1805, the waterways that had carried the Corps of Discovery nearly 3,000 miles west were shrinking into shallow channels. Winter was approaching. The Pacific remained hundreds of miles away. Somewhere beyond the mountains lay the answer to whether the expedition would survive.
Today, travelers can follow the route where everything changed.
Leave Interstate 90 behind and head south into the broad valleys of southwestern Montana, where the landscape begins to tell one of the most consequential stories of the Lewis and Clark Expedition. https://undauntedtravel.substack.com/p/the-reunion-that-saved-the-expedition

End your trip there or hire one of several outfitters to take you down the Salmon—The River of No Return. Or, you can drive down the river that Clark explored to Shoup, Idaho and beyond.
