Come down to the Skate Park and meet this summer’s Attendants, Jacob Traux and Jeremiah Rodriguez.

You might recognize Jacob, who has worked every summer at the Skate Park since 2024. Last year, he organized “Learn to Skate” classes for children 10 and under. Jacob, a caring and strong member of our team, consistently shows up for the young people who visit the Skate Park – he knows many of them on a deep level and supports them however he can.

Jeremiah first came to the Skate Park about two years ago, too. He played in many of the pick-up basketball games that happen every Tuesday and Thursday. He always showed great respect and care for the Skate Park and his peers, so it was no surprise he was hired as an attendant this year.

Looking forward to seeing you at the Skate Park this summer!

RSYP’s Student Organizing Fellow, Jade Brown, helped relaunch Mt. Everett’s Social Justice League – a club that promotes social justice and inclusion at the school while acting as a resource for students when social justice issues arise.

“The League wasn’t active for a while, and this was a great way to bring it back,” Jade told us. “I thought it was needed with the current situation at our school. The fellowship helped me get more support to work on things that I thought were important but didn’t have time for in prior years.”

The Social Justice League was instrumental in May when news broke that over 20 educators in the Southern Berkshire Regional School District had been issued layoff notices amid an ongoing funding gap in the 2027 budget. Outraged students organized a walkout with over 100 students participating. The League also encouraged student attendance at a school committee meeting that resulted in numerous staff positions being restored.

“I organized the protest with my peers in solidarity for my teachers and departments to show how much the students care,” reported Jade. “We care a lot!”

Our Middle School Mentoring Group took a trip to Boston for Mentoring Night at Fenway Park on May 14. Mentees from W.E.B. DuBois Middle School and Mount Everett School shared an evening of fun, food, souvenirs, and memories.

Mentoring Night is an annual event organized by our friends at Mass Mentoring Partnership. It’s always an amazing and inspiring experience – especially for those who have never been to Fenway before. This trip represented many “firsts” for a lot of our participants – first time to Boston, first time visiting Fenway, first time attending a baseball game in person, and first time on a big trip with friends!

Thanks to MMP for this opportunity to create lasting memories, make stronger connections, and build community.

As one mentee put it, “It’s always better to do things than not do them and regret it.”
