🐾💙 MEET CARAMEL — FROM FEARFUL TO FOREVER HOME READY! 🐾💙

From a life of neglect to discovering that laps are made for sitting and faces are made for KISSES! 😘🐶

Meet Caramel, our handsome 11-month-old, recently neutered Shih Tzu, and one of the four boys we recently welcomed into Mavroudis Poodle Rescue. ❤️

When these babies arrived, they were covered in urine, f***s, and painfully tight, pelted mats. At nearly a year old, they had never experienced the simple joy of being outdoors. Their entire world had been confined to the inside of a home, leaving them frightened, overwhelmed, and unsure of everything around them. 💔

But OH, what a difference a little love, patience, and compassion can make! 🥹

In just a short time, Caramel has begun blossoming into the sweetest little gentleman! He's discovering that humans have wonderful laps, kisses are an excellent way to say thank you, and the backyard is a magical place full of fascinating smells! 🌿🐾

He's even learning that going potty OUTSIDE is a pretty great idea! 🚽👏

💕 Caramel's Dream Home:

🐾 Someone willing to continue his potty training and confidence-building journey.

🥰 Most importantly, a lap he can call his very own!

Caramel has made incredible progress, but he's still learning how to be a dog in a world he's only just begun exploring. He doesn't need perfection. He needs patience, consistency, kindness, and someone willing to celebrate all his little victories.

💕 PART ONE: From Our Rescue to Their Happily Ever Afters! 💕

Oh, how far these little French pastries have come! 🥹❤️

When these precious French Bulldog–Miniature Poodle puppies first came into Mavroudis Poodle Rescue, their futures were still unwritten. They needed love, care, patience, and most importantly, someone willing to give them the opportunity to grow into the happy, healthy, playful little puppies they were meant to be.

And look at them NOW! 🐾❤️

🐾 ❤️‍🩹BIG FIRSTS FOR OUR FOUR LITTLE SHIH TZUS!*❤️‍🩹🐾

Our babies are starting to warm up to their incredible foster family, and we’re finally getting little glimpses of just how sweet these boys really are. 💜

And today was HUGE…

🌿 At 11 months old, they romped around a secure backyard for the FIRST TIME IN THEIR LIVES.

These babies came to us having reportedly never been outside and with very little socialization. Everything is new—the grass, sounds, smells, people, touch, routines…all of it.

Some of the behaviors we initially saw came from fear, stress, and anxiety.When a scared dog doesn’t know how to escape something it perceives as threatening, sometimes its only strategy is to try to look BIG and SCARY: barking, growling, lunging or telling that scary “predator” to GO AWAY.

But underneath all that fear are four little dogs who are slowly discovering that humans can be safe. ❤️

They are watching the resident dogs, exploring their surroundings, playing together and learning what life as a loved family dog is supposed to feel like.

Once they’ve had adequate time to decompress and recover from their neuters, our goal is to transition them into individual foster homes, ideally with a confident, established dog who can continue showing each of them the ropes. Separating them will give each boy the opportunity to build his own confidence and bond with people instead of relying solely on his brothers.

We cannot express enough gratitude to the foster family who said YES to ALL FOUR and took on such a BIG project for our rescue. What they are doing for these boys is truly incredible. 🥹💜

🏥 TOMORROW IS NEUTER DAY!

Three of the boys are scheduled to be neutered, and with our rescue already facing extremely tight medical funds, we could really use our community’s support.

🐾 THE FOUR SHIH TZU BOYS ARE STARTING TO WARM UP! 🐾

And let us tell you… this foster family was sent from above. 🙏💜

With more than 40 years of fostering experience, they’ve opened their home to babies from all kinds of circumstances. The night we desperately reached out for help, our prayers were heard. Without hesitation, this incredible family simply said:

“I’ll take them all.” 🥹

And they did.

These boys have had a HUGE couple of days.

At 11 months old, they were uprooted from everything they had ever known. We were told they had essentially only known the inside of a home and were too afraid to even go outside. They hadn't received the socialization young dogs desperately need.
So we are starting from square one.

No forcing.
No rushing.
No expectations.

Just patience, consistency, kindness and letting them decide when they are ready. 💜
And today, we saw progress!

🐾 They were running around with the resident dogs and each other.
🐾 They explored more of their new environment.
🐾 And while their foster mom lay completely motionless on the floor, they became curious enough to approach and sniff her on their own terms.

Instead of her reaching for them, she allowed them to investigate her.
That may sound like something tiny.
For these boys, it is HUGE. 🥹

Eventually, we believe separating them will be important so each boy can develop his own confidence and independence instead of relying solely on his brothers. But right now, they are learning one lesson at a time:
People can be safe.

Outside doesn't have to be scary.
And being a dog can actually be pretty wonderful. 💜🐾

🛒 THEY NEED OUR VILLAGE!

Four boys learning potty-training basics means we are going through supplies FAST.

And Wednesday is a BIG medical day. All four boys need support toward their neuters and rabies vaccinations. 🩺

Our rescue's medical funds are extremely tight right now, so whether it's $5, a bag of treats, a package of potty pads, or an item from our wish list, every single contribution makes a difference.

These boys didn't get the socialization and confidence-building they needed during their first 11 months.

We're going to make sure the next chapter is different. 💜

🐾💕 ANOTHER WEEK OF PUPPY PLAYTIME — VOLUNTEERS NEEDED! 💕🐾

Our three adorable French Bulldog × Miniature Poodle (“French Poodle/Froodle”) puppies are ready for another week of learning, exploring, and soaking up all the attention they can get! 🐶💜

While their foster mama works, we’re looking for local volunteers to spend one-hour Puppy Playtime shifts with them. Yes… volunteering really does mean sitting in a play yard surrounded by puppies. Tough job, right? 😂

Puppy Playtime is so much more than cuddles! These sessions expose our puppies to new people, sounds, smells, textures, outdoor environments, handling and positive experiences during an important developmental stage. It helps us raise confident, well-socialized puppies while also learning more about each puppy’s individual personality so we can make the best possible forever-family match.

Fostering provides a rescue dog with a safe, loving home until adoption—and our foster families have first opportunity to adopt their foster pet if they discover they’ve found their perfect match! Today was a heartbreaking day for our rescue.

For our foster babies, it was another repeat weekend—another stressful day of being packed into cars, transported to PetSmart Snellville, set up for adoption, and waiting… hoping this might finally be the day someone chose them.

We stayed up late reviewing and approving wonderful applications from our community and surrounding areas. We offered private Saturday meet-and-greets. We personally invited several approved applicants to come meet the dogs they had applied for, with the possibility of taking their new family member home the very same day.

Not. One. Person. Showed up.

Our dogs waited.

Our volunteers waited.

And at the end of the day, every foster baby was packed back into the cars and taken back to foster care.

There is so much that happens behind the photos you see on social media. There is blood, sweat, tears, sleepless nights, endless laundry, grooming, medications, vet appointments, transportation, applications, phone calls, adoption events and a very small handful of incredibly exhausted volunteers trying desperately to keep this rescue going.

Right now, Mavroudis Poodle Rescue is in a COMPLETE INTAKE FREEZE—medical and non-medical.

That means the next time one of our county shelters calls and says, “We have a poodle or poodle mix on the euthanasia list. Can you help?” we may have to make the heartbreaking decision to say:

“No.”

Not because we don’t care.

Not because we don’t want to save them.

But because we do not have enough committed foster homes. We do not have enough medical funding. Donations have slowed dramatically, and we have exhausted nearly every option available to us.

We refuse to lower our standard of care just so we can say we saved another dog. When a dog enters this rescue, we make a commitment to provide the medical care, grooming, prevention, rehabilitation and support that animal deserves.

But we cannot continue doing that without our community.

And our greatest fear is that when that call comes, we simply won’t have the resources left to say yes. 💔🐩

🐩 TEMPORARY FOSTER NEEDED — WINSTON BISHOP 🐩

Winston Bishop needs a temporary foster home, and we would LOVE to find someone with dog-training experience who can continue helping this smart boy build confidence and manners. 🤣❤️

Winston is sweet, playful, intelligent and does very well with dogs who communicate appropriately. He is also comfortable with the regular people in his current home and does not show protective behavior inside the house.

What Winston needs help working on:
• Leash walking — he is strong and needs continued training not to pull.
• Socialization with new people — including becoming comfortable with different people handling his leash.
• Excitement/impulse control — particularly when everyone gets excited about going outside, when he may grab or nip at heels.
• Appropriate mouth manners — continuing the training recommendations provided by our PetSmart Snellville trainers.
• Confidence around unfamiliar dogs — Winston does well when another dog approaches calmly and appears friendly. If he is unsure of the other dog’s intentions, he may respond defensively.

Our trainer has recommended using a leash during exciting transitions like going outside so Winston can be redirected immediately and taught what behavior is expected. Once outside and settled, he does very well.

This is a dog who will benefit tremendously from structure, consistency, confidence-building and someone willing to actually work with him rather than simply manage the behavior.

⭐ A foster with training experience would be more than ideal!
⭐ Rescue and trainer support available.
⭐ Temporary foster commitment.
⭐ We will provide guidance and support throughout his stay.
