Strong nonprofits begin with strong leadership. That was the focus of this Wednesday’s Nonprofit Education & Networking event, hosted with Vernon Area Public Library and Givenkindorg, bringing local nonprofit leaders together to explore board leadership.

Guest speaker Allison Henry, Clinical Assistant Professor at Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management, shared insights on building strong board culture, clarifying roles, and strengthening board-staff relationships. When boards and staff are aligned, organizations are better equipped to make informed decisions and deepen their impact.

Thank you to Allison Henry for joining us, and to Vernon Area Public Library and GiveNKind for their continued partnership in supporting Lake County’s nonprofit community.

Earlier this month, nonprofit leaders from across Lake County gathered at LCCF’s Quarterly Executive Director Roundtable Breakfast series, hosted at the University Center of Lake County. The session featured a workshop led by Geeta Chennareddy and Aaron Arnold of Waukegan to College (W2C) on how intentional time, space and focus for process improvement can strengthen nonprofit operations and build capacity.

LCCF is grateful to bring nonprofit leaders together to connect, share ideas and build meaningful relationships. The conversations were thoughtful, the takeaways actionable and the sense of community strong, as always.

Stay tuned for more opportunities to connect, learn and grow together.

Last Friday, LCCF team members and Board Chair were proud to join Lake County Partners at The Big Event—a meaningful gathering of public and private sector leaders united around a shared vision for Lake County's future.

Lake County Partners has been a valued partner of LCCF for years and our alignment runs deep. Together, we champion a Lake County where everyone can work, live, play and thrive. Events like this are essential to building the public, private and nonprofit connections necessary to make real progress possible.

We're grateful for this partnership and the collective momentum driving a stronger Lake County forward.

Important changes to SNAP work requirements may result in some recipients losing benefits on May 1, 2026 if they are not meeting or exempt from the new requirements.

SNAP is essential for helping thousands of Lake County families and neighbors access the food and support they need. Even temporary reductions or changes can create serious challenges to our neighbors’ well-being and stability. We are grateful to our partners at United Way of Lake County for sharing this important data and helping highlight the urgency of this issue in our community.
