UGA Extension and 4-H in Jones County

We had another awesome day at day camp! Our 4-H’ers learned all about birds of prey and their habits and then got to dissect real owl pellets! They reassembled the bones that were inside to see what owls prey upon. After lunch, everyone made some beaded art and played a predator versus prey game. The prey had to find the “food” that was hidden all around the meeting room while trying to avoid the predators. We ended the day with some more highly requested bead art!

Yesterday was day one of our day camp! These foodies learned basic cutting, measuring, and cooking skills to make all the food from the movie“Ratatouille” while they watched it. They also learned about how the food groups fuel our bodies for fun activities!

What a great day at the Georgia 4-H State Hippology and Horse Judging Contests! Our junior team came in fifth place overall in the horse judging contest and our junior team two which was comprised of Addy Moore, Trinity Wealot, and Lilah Welsher came in fourth place in the judging component of hippology! We applaud these awesome 4-H’ers for stepping out of their comfort zone to try something new and we are so proud of them! They have grown their skills and gained so much knowledge in the horse world. We also got to see the results of the educational contests and had some solid placings in drawing, painting, and photography. Way to go Jones County!

We kicked off our summer activities with a “reel-y” great morning fishing at Miller Lake! None of our fish were big enough to mount so the kids tried their hand at “craftidermy” and created the most wonderful fish to mount on their own board!

⚾️4-H NIGHT AT MACON BACON IS JUNE 13TH!⚾️

This will be a great summer time activity for your family! Macon Bacon will be playing Lexington County Blowfish at Luther Williams Field in Macon. Tickets are $17 each and includes game admission, a free Macon Bacon hat, and all you can eat and drink. A portion of tickets sold will go to Jones County 4-H!
