⚾️ NE ELITE BASEBALL | KNOWLEDGE & DEVELOPMENT ⚾️

WEEK 1 OF 10 | MORE THAN BATTING AVERAGE

We’re kicking off our 10-week Baseball Knowledge & Development Series with one of the most common ways players are evaluated at the plate: the stats.

Most people know batting average, but a player’s batting average only tells part of the story.

📊 AVG | Batting Average
How often a player gets a hit in an official at-bat.
A .300 AVG means the player gets a hit in about 3 out of every 10 at-bats.

📊 OBP | On-Base Percentage
How often a player reaches base safely, including hits, walks and hit-by-pitches.
A player who works counts and earns walks can be extremely valuable even when they aren’t collecting hits.

📊 SLG | Slugging Percentage
Measures the total bases a hitter earns and gives more value to extra-base hits.
A double counts more than a single, a triple more than a double, and a home run earns the most.

📊 OPS | On-Base + Slugging
Simply combines OBP and SLG. It gives us a bigger picture of a hitter’s ability to get on base AND hit for power.

⚾️ So why does this matter?

Because baseball development is about much more than batting average.

A walk after battling through an 8-pitch at-bat matters.
A double that drives a runner home matters.
Consistently finding ways to get on base matters.

The goal isn’t just to get hits. It’s to become a better, smarter and more complete hitter.

⚾️🏆 CONGRATULATIONS GNGR LITTLE LEAGUE! 🏆⚾️

What an incredible summer of baseball for the Gray-New Gloucester-Raymond 12U All-Stars!

After battling their way through Districts, GNGR captured the 2026 Maine Little League State Championship and earned the opportunity to represent Maine at the New England Regional Tournament in Bristol, Connecticut! 🌲⚾️

Making it to Bristol and representing your state on the New England stage is an accomplishment these players, coaches and families will never forget.

And this run was especially exciting for the NE Elite family! 🖤💛

10 members of the GNGR All-Star team also spent their 2026 travel season playing with NE Elite!
