We had a wonderful Spring gathering even if the weather was not really cooperating. We now know a lot more about each other and had a delicious meal at Mulligans. We are looking forward to our outdoor gathering the first Sunday of August. We were glad to see that our fearless leader of many years, Jim still has all of his EMT and boy scout skills. A 100+ year old guest somewhere else in the restaurant fell and was rescued by our members.

Please be thinking of what we could do to celebrate our 30 years as an organization. A special meal?? Musical entertainment? Dancing? Location? All ideas are welcome. Feel free to send them to me.

Message from our President, Cindy Monroe

What a wonderful gathering we had to celebrate the birthday of Robert Burns. Thanks to all who participated especially special guests Nan Worthington with her celtic harp and Liam Wesley with his bagpipes and memorized salute to the haggis. What wonderful food we had at our potluck! We certainly have great cooks.

I want to make certain you have these dates on your calendar for the year. More details will come as it gets closer to each date.

Well, look where representatives of the St. Andrews Society showed up? When Presbyterian Church of Traverse City celebrated their Scottish heritage on Reformation Sunday, October 26, it was only natural for your local Scottish society to participate.

Having traditional Scotch pies and Sausage rolls on the lunch menu, and listening to Grand Traverse Pipes and Drums play was enough reason to put on the tartans.

Our many thanks to Presbyterian Church of Traverse City (and Pastor Julie) for letting us participate and making us feel welcome.

Former member of St. Andrews Society, Marge Eckert

Marjorie Eckert, age 98, of Traverse City, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 31, 2025 with family at her side.

She lived in several locations in the Up North and the UP. She was a good mother to her children and their friends and spouses. She was a penny pincher which allowed us money to afford vacations. She really enjoyed riding in the car, blue skies with white puffy clouds and all animal life, except maybe squirrels. She was a diehard Presbyterian and attended almost every week. She was married to Max Eckert in 1947 and lived most of their lives in Dearborn, MI and moved to TC in 2008. They were married for 62 years until his death. She was a jogger in her mid years and a walker till the end. In the end she repeated, “I am 98 years old and have lived a good life. Lord I am ready, willing and want to go.”

Marge was preceded in death by her husband, Harold “Max” Eckert; son, Donald Eckert; sister, Virginia Irish; and parents, Menno & Ruth (Larsen) Otterbein.

She is survived by her children, Keeta (David) Beaubien, Kurtis (Evelyn) Eckert; grandchildren, Teresa Eckert, Jacob Eckert; and great grandchildren, Caleb and Anya.

A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 27, 2025 at The Presbyterian Church of Traverse City, 701 Westminster Rd., Traverse City, MI. Marge’s remains will be inhumed in the church’s Remembrance Garden. Memorial contributions may be given to The Presbyterian Church of Traverse City, IPR, Interlochen Art Academy or Skegemog Raptor Center.
