Say, isn't August 27th National Peach Day?

Why, yes it is!

National Peach Day, celebrated on August 27, is a chance to celebrate the growers, farmers, farmworkers, producers, and everyone across the agricultural community who helps bring California peaches from the orchard to our tables.

Did you know: California is the nation’s leading peach-producing state. In 2025, California produced approximately 528,000 tons of peaches, ranking No. 1 in the country in both production and value, with $636 million in production value. California also ranked No. 1 nationally in bearing peach acreage, with 37,100 acres.

Check out California Department of Food and Agriculture's (CDFA) blog post for more info and a sweet video to boot.

Nevada County Resource Conservation District (NCRCD) is working with the USDA Natural Resource Conservation Service (NRCS) Grass Valley Field Office on the 2026 Local Working Group Survey. The purpose is to collect vital input from residents of Nevada County who own or manage cropland, rangeland, and/or forestland to better understand how our community values the importance of different resource concerns.

After the national and state NRCS priorities, these surveys are the primary input we have at the local level on how projects are selected in our county. I've attached a PDF flyer that explains the purpose with links and a QR Code for anyone to take the survey. Please share far and wide!

Responses to the 2026 Local Working Group Survey for Nevada County will be presented in a public meeting hosted by NCRCD in the shared conference room; 113 Presley Way, Suite 2, Grass Valley, CA 95945 on Monday, August 31st at 4:00pm. Both in-person and virtual options will be available.

The more responses we can gather, and the more detail provided in those responses, the better data we have for NRCS to rank and select projects for funding in Nevada County. This survey can directly result in better federal financial assistance programs for farmers, ranchers, and forest managers in our community. Please take a few minutes to complete the survey.

Hello Nevada County Prescribed Burn Association Members!

While we are steeped in the heat of summer, we're using this time to incubate how we can best serve this community to build both wildfire resilience and community resilience through prescribed fire. The NCPBA would love to celebrate the launch of the newly established Nevada County Prescribed Burn Association, and we'd love to do that with y’all! This is a great opportunity to meet fellow fire tenders, the NCPBA board, and get inspired to build momentum for your 2026–27 prescribed fire season.

Please join us for a Potluck BBQ picnic on Sunday, September 13, from 12:00–4:00 p.m.at Pioneer Park. Bring a premade dish to share - we will provide some grilled meat and vegetables. We hope to see you there!
