Earlier today, our board announced the recipient of the 2026 Daryl Landell Mersereau Academic Scholarship.
After learning she had been selected, Mia asked if we would share the following message with the other applicants. While Facebook doesn't allow public visitors to post directly to our page, we were honored to share her words on her behalf.
Mia's compassion, humility, and gratitude are just a few of the reasons she stood out to our board. We are proud to support her educational journey and look forward to seeing the impact she will make in the years ahead.
π Message from Mia Viegelahn:
To everyone who applied for this scholarship,
I want to start by saying how incredibly proud I am of each and every one of you. Sharing your story, your struggles, your dreams, and your passions takes courage. The fact that you were willing to put yourselves out there and advocate for your future is something worth celebrating.
While I was fortunate enough to receive this scholarship, I want you all to know that I do not take this opportunity lightly. I will not let it go to waste. I promise to continue working hard, pursuing my education, helping others, and making a positive impact wherever I can.
This award may have my name on it, but I carry the inspiration of every applicant with me. Your stories reminded me how much strength, resilience, and kindness exist in our communities. The world is better because of people like you who care deeply and keep moving forward despite challenges.
I hope you continue chasing your goals and believing in yourselves. This scholarship does not define your worth or your potential. Your character, determination, and willingness to keep going do.
Thank you for inspiring me. I will do my best to honor this opportunity by continuing to help others, lead with kindness, and give back whenever I can. And if any of you ever need support, encouragement, or someone to talk to, please don't hesitate to reach out. We are all capable of making a difference, and I believe in every one of you.
