We’re inspired by the way this community comes together to pull off ambitious goals!

Grass Lake's Traffic Jam'in is exactly that. A grand weekend packed with plenty to see and do right here in one spot. Lost Railway Museum is proud to do our part by sponsoring the Traffic Jam’in 5K.

Here’s what’s happening July 10th–11th:
🎸 Two days of live music (free!)
🚗 Classic car show — Saturday, July 11, 12:00pm–4:00pm
🏃 5K Run & Walk — Friday, July 10th at 7:00pm
👨‍👩‍👧 Free admission, family-friendly fun, all weekend long

Last month, we had the opportunity to say thank you in person to a group of very special people.

Our donors and museum members give us more than financial support. They offer the bond of friendship formed from a mutual love of history. Every year, we celebrate in tribute to all that we have accomplished together.

The doors stay open and the exhibits continue to expand because of people like them. People who believe local history is worth preserving and sharing.

On summer weekends in the early 1900s, you didn't need a car to get to Wolf Lake. You just needed some pocket change and a seat on the interurban.

Special excursion cars were often operated by interurban railways to carry large crowds traveling to resort destinations such as Wolf Lake. During the early 1900s, additional cars were scheduled on weekends and holidays to transport visitors attending dances, picnics, swimming outings, and other summer activities. These excursion runs helped make Wolf Lake a popular recreation destination and played an important role in supporting tourism and resort growth in the area.

The interurban didn't just connect towns. It gave ordinary families a day off.

It is with deep sadness that we mourn the passing of Kenneth F. Soderbeck (1936–2026), a talented craftsman, historian, and longtime volunteer who generously shared his knowledge and skills with countless preservation projects. Known for his remarkable work in fire apparatus restoration, metal fabrication, sign painting, and interurban restoration, Ken played an important role in preserving transportation history throughout Michigan.

At the Lost Railway Museum, Ken volunteered his time and expertise to restoration efforts and historical interpretation, always willing to mentor others and lend a helping hand. His passion for craftsmanship and authenticity inspired many volunteers and visitors alike.

Beyond his incredible talents, Ken will be remembered for his kindness, storytelling, and dedication to preserving history for future generations. His contributions leave a lasting legacy within the museum community and among all who had the privilege to know him.

If you would like to attend a Celebration of Ken’s Life, it will be held on Thursday, July 23rd, 2026 at 2:00pm.

This is what history looks like before it becomes an exhibit.

Our restoration crew brings together skills you’d usually only find in a professional shop: metalwork, electrical, woodworking, historical research, and a stubborn refusal to let something important disappear. Luckily for this cow catcher, our crew happens to know how to drive a forklift too.

Most of them are volunteers. They are all remarkably talented and passionate about saving history from rust and decay.

Every piece in this building began with someone who saw its potential, and refused to let it go. Next time you visit, ask about it because our team genuinely loves sharing.

You showed up because you believe history matters, and we are touched. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for making this a day to remember!

Jackson County Free Museum Day was everything we hoped it would be — both familiar faces and a whole lot of people discovering this hidden gem for the first time.
