Some of our members have done some rope rescue classes with Chief Webb. A very solid fire service leader gone too soon and we shall miss his presence to push all of us into the future.
Line of Duty Loss
It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of our brother, Chief Jimmy Webb, who lost his courageous battle with occupational cancer.
Chief Webb was as solid as they come—salt of the earth, a leader who always put his people first, did the right thing, and led the charge for positive change within the department. From his early days in Kent, through his promotions up to Battalion Chief, and later shaping the consortium and training, he consistently stepped up and showed us what quiet competence and true leadership looks like.
Even in his fight with cancer, Chief Webb demonstrated resilience and strength that we can all aspire to.
His passing is also a painful reminder of the dangers firefighters face long after the call is over. Occupational cancer remains the leading cause of line-of-duty deaths in the fire service, and Chief Webb’s battle underscores the importance of continuing to fight for prevention, protections, and support for our members and their families.
Our union, our department, and our families have already endured loss this year—and it never gets easier. This one hurts deeply.
Please keep Chief Webb and his family in your hearts during this difficult time.
We’ll miss you, Chief. Godspeed.
