Two of our firefighters are charging up one of Seattle’s tallest towers this Sunday — not for glory, but to fight back against blood cancers. They’re climbing to raise awareness and fuel the mission of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

If you want to back their climb and the cause, donate here: https://pages.lls.org/events/wa/firefighterstairclimb26/PaineFieldFirefighters

Some Paine Field Firefighters did their annual ARFF training at Dallas/Fort Worth Fire training and research center in February. Every shift has to do this at least once a year. Fire departments send their personnel from all over the country and world to this facility.

Quarterly training is underway at PAE! Teams from Everett Fire Department, South County Fire, Mukilteo Fire Department, The Boeing Company Fire Department, and Northwest Ambulance Critical Care Transport joined the Paine Field Fire Department for an important tour of the FAA Air Traffic Control Tower. This hands-on pre-incident planning strengthens our coordinated response capabilities and ensures we’re ready for any emergency.

Some of our members have done some rope rescue classes with Chief Webb. A very solid fire service leader gone too soon and we shall miss his presence to push all of us into the future.

Line of Duty Loss

It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of our brother, Chief Jimmy Webb, who lost his courageous battle with occupational cancer.

Chief Webb was as solid as they come—salt of the earth, a leader who always put his people first, did the right thing, and led the charge for positive change within the department. From his early days in Kent, through his promotions up to Battalion Chief, and later shaping the consortium and training, he consistently stepped up and showed us what quiet competence and true leadership looks like.

Even in his fight with cancer, Chief Webb demonstrated resilience and strength that we can all aspire to.

His passing is also a painful reminder of the dangers firefighters face long after the call is over. Occupational cancer remains the leading cause of line-of-duty deaths in the fire service, and Chief Webb’s battle underscores the importance of continuing to fight for prevention, protections, and support for our members and their families.

Our union, our department, and our families have already endured loss this year—and it never gets easier. This one hurts deeply.

Please keep Chief Webb and his family in your hearts during this difficult time.
We’ll miss you, Chief. Godspeed.

From South County Fire

Fire significantly damaged two homes north of Lake Stickney in Everett this afternoon. The cause is under investigation and fireworks cannot be ruled out.

More than 30 firefighters fought the flames that were coming from both houses when the first unit arrived shortly after 1:30pm. Everyone in both houses made it out safely and one dog survived. Sadly, one cat died in the fire. Several pets remain missing.

Thank you to Support 7 and American Red Cross Northwest Region volunteers for assisting 15 people displaced by the fire.

We remind everyone: please use caution with any flame or heat source. Our warm, dry weather creates conditions for fires to spread quickly.

Thanks to Everett Fire Department, Mukilteo Fire Department and Paine Field Firefighters Local 2597 for assistance with this response.
