While working on disaster recovery in Kentucky, we also had the opportunity to help a local congregation doing great work. Grace Fellowship is a store front church helping the poor in their community. They serve a hot meal twice a week. People may come in to eat, but they deliver most of the meals. They serve 400 meals a week. In addition, they are in the process of opening a free clothing pantry. We helped sort through the mounds of clothing they have collected so far.

The second home we worked at belongs to a single mom of 2 sons. They are twin young men who were born very early. Both are autistic. One has cerebral palsy and is needing a wheelchair. But the home didn't have a handicap ramp. So, we built a ramp. We couldn't finish it but did most of the work. Someone is coming after us to build a cover over it. The homeowner was so exciting about the ramp and kept telling us how beautiful it is.

The first home we worked on was in Elkhorn City, KY. The homeowner is a widowed senior citizen who lives alone. Originally, she lived further down the mountain on the same road. She was moved up the mountain to protect her home from flooding. That was a good decision, as the original home was washed away in the recent flooding. The road to her house is one lane, curvy with many washed out areas. Her trailer didn't have any steps out the front door, and makeshift stairs made from concrete blocks out the back. We built a new porch and steps for each door. In addition, we cleaned out the drainage ditch in the rear of her home.

Our mission team just returned from Eastern Kentucky. We stayed in Pikeville, KY and worked in the surrounding area. This area of Kentucky has periodic floods. The work we came to do was in response to flooding from 2022. But the week before we arrived, there was extensive flooding in the area. The group we worked with will be there for the next three years responding to this new flooding.

Our mission team is heading to Pikeville, KY. We leave Sunday morning to spend a week helping people rebuild after flooding. Although there was serious flooding just recently, we are responding to flooding from 2 years ago. Rebuilding after disasters takes many years. We are staying in Pikeville, but our work is a little further away. Keep us and the people of Kentucky in your prayers

Half of our group worked on converting this trailer to a shower trailer. The church supplying housing did not have showers so they purchased a 3 stall shower trailer. We were joined by a large group from Nebraska, making the total 35. But only three showers! The new shower trailer was started by another group. We hoped to finish it, but the heavy rain on Friday kept us inside.

Part of our group built wheel chair ramps. They almost finished the second ramp, but it rained all day Friday.
