The history and future of the Granville Township Open Space program.

If you are a person interested in land preservation we really encourage you to watch this 16 min video. The short film commissioned by former Trustee Jim Havens was not to “brag” about the program but to encourage other communities to develop their own program!

This Open Space program was citizen initiated and a levy brought to the ballot for the voters to decide. Ohio Revised Code allows for any township to do the same and we hope this film encourages community members around the state to advocate for their own Open Space program. We are always happy to answer questions and hope you enjoy this video.

We are so proud of Granville Townships Open Space program and the leadership of Trustees before us! We are thankful for all the volunteers on the Open Space Committee and Land Management Committee who make overseeing almost 2,000 acres of open space land doable for a township!

We hope other Townships in Ohio take advantage of the ORC code that allows for Townships to go to voters and levy revenue to buy land easements and protect Ohio’s rural spaces!

Generally, the landowner is able to continue to use the land for farming or recreation but is unable to develop it.

Atticus and I walked through town, in the rain (took refuge) to place a sign in another Village yard. After all, Open Space isn't just for people! Comment below if you want a sign as we have a few left!!
