Today, we celebrate the courage to live authentically, the freedom to love openly, and the beauty of simply being yourself.

For some, coming out is a celebration. For others, itโ€™s a journey that takes time, courage, and trust. Every journey is different, and every story matters.

To those who are out, we celebrate you. To those who arenโ€™t ready, we stand beside you. And to those who are still finding their way, know that you are seen, valued, and loved.

Here in Granville, we believe everyone deserves to feel safe, accepted, and proud of who they are.

Today, as we remember the lives lost on September 11, 2001, Granville Pride also remembers one of our own.

Mark Bingham was an openly gay man, a rugby player, a son, a friendโ€”and an American hero.

Mark was aboard United Airlines Flight 93 when it was hijacked on September 11. After passengers learned what had happened at the World Trade Center and Pentagon, Mark was among the group of passengers who fought back against the hijackers. Flight 93 crashed near Shanksville, Pennsylvania, before it could reach its intended target in Washington, D.C.

๐™ˆ๐™–๐™ง๐™  ๐™ฌ๐™–๐™จ ๐™Ÿ๐™ช๐™จ๐™ฉ 31 ๐™ฎ๐™š๐™–๐™ง๐™จ ๐™ค๐™ก๐™™.

Long before that morning, Mark was also breaking barriers. He was an openly gay athlete who helped build the San Francisco Fog, an inclusive rugby club, and believed gay men belonged everywhereโ€”including on the athletic field. His influence became so significant that the international Bingham Cup rugby tournament was created in his memory.

On a day when we remember extraordinary acts of courage, we remember that LGBTQ+ people were among the victims. Among the first responders. Among the families who lost loved ones. And among the heroes.

Born August 24, 1945, Marsha became an enduring symbol of courage, visibility, and resistance in the fight for LGBTQ+ liberation.

She stood boldly for a community that too often had no voiceโ€”especially transgender people, people of color, and LGBTQ+ youth experiencing homelessness. Alongside Sylvia Rivera, she helped create STAR, providing support and shelter for some of the most vulnerable members of our community.

Marsha reminded the world that Pride is more than a celebration. It is courage. It is community. It is standing up for one another.

Today, we celebrate her life, honor her legacy, and continue the work she helped begin.

Today, we honor the anniversary of the Stonewall Uprising. ๐Ÿณ๏ธโ€๐ŸŒˆ

On June 28, 1969, members of the LGBTQIA+ community stood together against injustice outside the Stonewall Inn, forever changing the fight for equality. Their courage sparked a movement that continues to inspire generations around the world.

Pride is more than a celebration. It is a reminder that progress has always been powered by ordinary people choosing to stand up, speak out, and support one another.

As we reflect on yesterdayโ€™s incredible Granville Pride celebration, we remember that our work continues today. We celebrate with joy, advocate with purpose, and remain committed to building a community where everyone is safe, seen, valued, and loved.
