Michael celebrated a birthday this month, and tomorrow marks the anniversary of his passing. As we reflect on his legacy, we remember him as a warm-hearted renaissance man who was loving, caring, and fair. His spirit continues to inspire us every day.
As we move forward with the foundation created in his honor, we have made the very difficult decision to award our final scholarships this month and to discontinue the foundation afterward. Over the years, we have had the joy of awarding hundreds of scholarships and distributing thousands of dollars to support children in Licking County. We helped them participate in extracurricular activities, contribute to community projects, and access needed interventions.
This decision has come with many tears. Adam and I have realized that we cannot give the foundation the love, care, and time it deserves at this point in our lives. We want to spend any spare time we have with Adam and Michael’s dad, who turned 86 this month and lives with us, and whom we care for. We know, without a doubt, that Michael would want it this way.
We want to extend a huge and heartfelt thank you to every board member who has served over the years. Your dedication, generosity, and countless hours of service did not go unnoticed. This foundation, and the impact it made, would not have been possible without your commitment and belief in our mission.
We are deeply grateful to every student, family, supporter, and volunteer who has been part of this journey and for the opportunity to carry Michael’s legacy forward in such a meaningful way.
While the foundation will no longer continue, Michael’s spirit and the difference we were able to make together will live on in the lives of the children we’ve touched.
Thank you, from the bottom of our hearts, for being part of this journey.
