Crex Meadows Youth Conservation Camp will provide a positive experience where youth will develop valuable work-related skills and a positive connection to nature. The Crex Meadows Youth Conservation Camp is a unique opportunity for high school youth to take a “hands on” approach to exploring environmental education and conservation careers. While residing at the camp, these youth assist the Wiscon
sin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) with a variety of environmental conservation projects and participate in daily academic and experiential learning activities. The camp is staffed with counselors whose backgrounds vary from outdoor education to environmental resources, a cook, and a camp director all of whom are dedicated to the safety, education and well-being of every camper. Where We’re Located:
Established in 1996, the Crex Meadows Youth Conservation Camp is located in Grantsburg, Wisconsin, situated on a 30,000-acre state wildlife area. Whom We Serve:
The camp employs at-risk youth, economically disadvantaged youth, and youth with special education needs, ages 14-18, residing in the ten northwest counties of Wisconsin. Benefits to Youth:
Youth learn valuable lessons in goal setting, team building, leadership development, and work
readiness skills not only through the curriculum and work activities but also during workshops, field trips, and recreation time offered at the camp. In addition, youth earn minimum wage for their work with the DNR and earn high school credit from participating high schools. Our Partners:
The Crex Meadows Youth Conservation Camp is the result of a partnership between the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources and the Northwest Wisconsin Concentrated Employment Program, Inc., a private, non-profit organization.
