Election time is over, for now. May and June are Budget Season for both our county and city. Both fiscal years run July to June, so they both, individually must review the budget, make any changes and adopt the next year's Budget by July 1 (or June 30th really) These meetings may be a little long, but honestly they are the most important topics voters should be aware and involved in. This is the time to ask questions, either in person or through email. Now is the time to stay engaged. You learn so much watching a Budget meeting to include not only how the city and county, two seperate entities, will spend the tax money you pay, but also where does all of the revenue come from? The money's the government leaders are entrusted with do not all come from local taxes, some comes from state and federal grants and payments. This is still tax payer money, just checks written from different entities and have different mandates. This year, commit to listening more. Keep it on in the car or while doing chores, you might be surprised what you learn. It will also make you a better voter. 🇺🇲 May 27, 2026, Josephine County BCC Budget committee meeting.
