Do you know your high school student would do better in a home setting but homeschooling a high schooler feels overwhelming? We get it. But at REACH (an accredited, public charter school), you can have the benefits of having your student at home while also being enrolled in a school that provides the education and curriculum.

Currently, our home-based program has openings for high school students. This means your high schooler would learn entirely from home, but be accountable to teachers with a provided curriculum. You would serve in the role of Learning Coach. You would also work alongside their teacher to define success for your student and personalize a plan to help them reach those goals.

Over the summer, we want to take some time to recognize the people who make REACH what it is: our teachers! We are starting strong with Melinda Koch!

Melinda has been a teacher for over 20 years and this will be her 5th year with REACH. Melinda chose to work with REACH because of the unique 4-day schedule the Evans Valley campus offers and the amazing students and families she gets to work with.

For fun, Melinda likes to travel, read, and paddleboard. Over the summer, Melinda is going to Europe for 3 weeks with her daughter and mom!

Thank you for all you do, Melinda! We so appreciate all the thought and care you put into your work!

High school is a critical time in a young person’s life. In those short 4 years, so much learning and development happens. If your child is unhappy in their current high school setting, don’t wait to make a change.

At REACH, we offer personalized education for our students. We currently have room in some of our high school classes, with both hybrid and home-based options depending on their age, to take on some new students.

Happy Flag Day! To honor today, we wanted to share some fun facts about flags:

🇺🇸 On June 14 every year, the Boy Scouts and veteran organizations burn thousands of flags no longer fit to fly.

🇺🇸 Flag Code states that the American flag should never be used for advertisement! This has been contested since, as it might violate the First Amendment.

🇺🇸 The US is the only country that does not dip its flag to the host country during Opening Ceremonies of the Olympics.

Did you know that your child does NOT need to be released from your school district to attend a brick-and-mortar charter school? Now, you might be thinking, “I don’t want them to attend a brick-and-mortar charter school. I want them to attend an online charter school.” Well, that’s where REACH comes in.

In Oregon, a school district can deny your release if more than 3% of students in their districts have already left to attend an online charter school. But you do not have to request a release to attend a brick-and-mortar charter school. You just enroll and, if they have room, go about your life.

REACH is a brick-and-mortar charter school. We have two campuses: one in Grants Pass and one in Evans Valley. We offer 3 modalities of learning: place-based, hybrid, and home-based. Our home-based students learn entirely from home but routinely meet with a teacher. So, even though the work is done from home, your child would still be attending a brick-and-mortar school with a campus that they do go to in order to meet with their teacher.

And just like that… The 2025-26 school year has come to a close.

Our families deserved a celebration, so that is what we did! The End of the Year Celebration is one of our favorite events. Everyone gets to come together and simply have a good time.

They all worked so hard, they ought to party hard!

Congratulations, Josalin!

🎓 Congratulations to Josalin Sparks! 🎓

Project Youth+ Advisor Kylee Clayton had the privilege of presenting Josalin with a $1,000 Project Youth+ Scholarship in recognition of her outstanding achievements and bright future.

A student at River's Edge Academy Charter School (REACH), Josalin has accomplished an incredible amount during her high school years. This year, she earned her CNA certification, completed her Associate of Arts Transfer degree through Rogue Community College as a dual enrolled student, and graduated with her high school diploma.

This fall, Josalin will continue her educational journey at Southern Oregon University, where she plans to pursue a degree in nursing.

We are incredibly proud of Josalin's hard work, determination, and commitment to her goals. Her accomplishments are a testament to what is possible through dedication, perseverance, and a passion for helping others.
