COLUMBIA, Mo. – University of Missouri Extension has updated its Custom Rates for Farm Services in Missouri guide, which provides current estimates of charges and payments for common custom farming activities across the state.

04/28/2026

Missouri is aging and the data confirms what many communities are already experiencing.

St. Louis County has the highest total population of residents age 65 and older, with 190,319 older adults, while Worth County has the fewest, with 510 older adults.

Fifty-four counties in Missouri now have populations where at least 20 percent of residents are age 65 or older. Hickory County ranks highest, with 32.35 percent of residents age 65+, while Pulaski County has the lowest share at 9.65 percent.

MU Extension works statewide to support healthy aging through education and community-based programs that help older adults stay active, connected and independent. From strength training and cognitive health to caregiver support and chronic disease management, our work meets Missourians where they are, whether in rural towns or urban centers.

As Missouri’s population continues to age, MU Extension remains committed to honoring older adults and partnering with communities to support quality of life at every stage.

Last chance to become a Missouri Century Farm in 2026! Apply by May 1.

Since its inception in 1976, the Missouri Century Farms program has celebrated farms that have remained within the same family for a century or more. This initiative honors the dedication and hard work of Missouri's farmers, who have played a pivotal role in our state's history and continue to nourish our nation.

So far, more than 8,000 farms have received this recognition.

If your farm has been in the family for 100+ years as of Dec. 31, 2026, apply for the Century Farm designation and receive a certificate, sign and booklet to commemorate your heritage.

A group of individuals would like to increase our celebration of the 4th of July 2026 in Worth County. Plans for a tractor cruise on the 3rd of July starting at the fairgrounds in Grant City, traveling to Allendale, then to Denver Schoolhouse Museum, then to the 169 club outside of Worth for lunch, then to Sheridan, and back to Grant City Fairgrounds. Old Defiance days and rodeo celebration and activities will be in Sheridan on June 19th - June 20. It will include flag raising and a parade. Allendale will have fireworks on July 3rd and breakfast on July 4th. We are hoping to have hot air balloon rides on July 3rd in Allendale before the fireworks. We have the space and a sponsor for the balloons but could use additional funding to bring these to Worth County. We will have a county wide cell phone scavenger hunt and possibly other activities. There will be fireworks in Grant City on the 4th of July. Other ideas and help with activities are welcome. Contact Kevin Fisher at 660-783-5202 for additional information, donation, help in planning the activities. Shirts with the logo below will also be available.
