What is Gneiss Collective?
Gneiss Collective is a newly formed non-profit governed by a local board in the Granite Falls region. Gneiss Collective fosters a resilient and creative region by serving the community through environmental connection, music and arts, and economic vitality.
Currently, Gneiss Collective is working on a project to develop a strong local foods movement in our region in order to improve availability of local foods for consumers, and more opportunities for local producers to get their products to consumers. But the Gneiss Collective isn't JUST about foods. The Gneiss Collective also fosters local arts and music, and has plans to provide environmental programming, and business incubation projects.
The name Gneiss (pronounced "Nice") Collective is inspired by the Gneiss Rock outcrops that exist in the local area. Gneiss is a common and widely distributed type of metamorphic rock. It is formed by high-temperature and high-pressure metamorphic processes acting on formations composed of igneous or sedimentary rocks.
